Really worth giving it a try, it might be what you've been needing to hear
About a year ago, I listened to the first three tracks of this record and hated them with a passion. I can not believe how greatly I misjudged this album. Across vocals, themes, instrumentation, lyricism, it is incredible. One of the most energetic, witty records I have heard to date.
Ca$ino is Baby Keem's most mature, moody album to date. Despite maintaining this consistent moodiness, the beats are varied and complicate, sweeter tracks like $ex Appeal are built to contrast with vulnerable, dispiriting tracks like No Blame, which are built to contrast with more aggressive tracks like House Money.
One element which does not truly hit the mark on moodiness is Kendrick's features. He brings a lack of seriousness which may have worked to some effect on his GNX but ... read more
Or perhaps an overpass or a viaduct or a boardwalk or a tunnel or a corridor.
Production is actually consistently great but IDK's rapping is generally sloppy and often overly idiosyncratic. This is seen to a point where some tracks like SCARY MERRi are practically unlistenable despite Conductor's efforts. Even when they lyricism is entertaining, such as on MisOGYNISTICAL, he fails to grab attention with his vocal style. The features are also super underwhelming, with some big names being squeezed into hooks or unsatisfying verses.. we needed more from DOOM, ... read more
SMILE! :D is a more lightweight, catchy Nurture while maintaining the sincerity and sentimentality throughout. The production is vibrant and awesome. makes me smile like :D
There are some great flows and the production is consistently good however, they both find themselves becoming repetitive. Even considering the 20 minute run time some tracks become redundant. Though this takes away from the project, the highs work well, most notably in utilizing EsDee's style and cadence very effectively. Tracks like 4 Raws, LV Sandals and Phantom make the album.
This project brings nothing to the table. There is no replayability on these microscopic tracks, which themselves are regurgitated fragments of countless genres. The lyrics are boring and come off as insincere, relying on the track to end before you realize their respective meaninglessness.
I need to listen to more dance-able music. I haven't bopped to an album like this in a while ;)
Really a hit or miss album, and an overall a step down in lyrical and production quality, while providing a more conceptually sound project. The nuanced, variance in his sound is also appreciated, however implementation and actualization of these different styles and genres into one album is majorly where it falls short.
This is the worst best album I have ever heard. Or maybe best worst album.. not sure
Many of the tracks on this mixtape do not resonate with me at all since all Gluee seems to be is a weaker take on the same sound heard on GTBSG Comp, and can generally be seen as a step backwards from what we now understand to be Bladee's greatest trait as an artist, his versatility and growth from project to project. None of Drain Gang's lyricism has improved in any discernible way to compensate for the fact that a majority of these tracks aren't very catchy and do not show very ... read more
Sort of a mixed bag.. some really good tracks on there, but it trails off by the end of the project.
Despite hearing the fact that this album is outside of The Beach Boys' wheelhouse, I decided this could be a good first album to listen to since I typically enjoy more moody, atmospheric vibes. This album did not disappoint and provided some great stand out tracks like Disney Girls, Surf's Up and 'Til I Die, which all captured this perfectly. There were some mediocre and boring tracks which weigh this project down, like Lookin' at Tomorrow and Student Demonstration Time.. ... read more
I've been listening to the more popular tracks off this project for the past couple months and have been putting off listening to this record in its entirety for a while despite really loving those select tracks. I really shouldn't have, there are a few more really great tracks, and some others which built up an amazing listening experience front to back.
Some examples of the former are DISCARD, COLD IN HERE, and STYROFOAM, all producing some really beautiful soundscapes and ... read more
Consistently great instrumentally, Bowie has a great voice on this project, but the writing often sounds superficially abstract or meaningless.
I don't mean to be disrespectful, however the claims that morality and spirituality are strong and well developed seem retroactive with Bowie's passing, and relies too heavily on the concept of Bowie forming his own epitaph than the album's delivery. Several songs lean too far into abstraction, and any emotional significance is obstructed by such, as well as the general disjointedness of songs and their subject matter. This disjointedness could be considered juxtaposition, ... read more
This is great I can't wait to listen to more.. such a unique sound and production style
EP 2 came out the gate with some excellent implementation of trip hop and pop sounds and vocals, but past the first two tracks, this balance is essentially gone. The songs begin to sound like really bland pop and rock with very slim amounts of actual good trip hop elements, which I just can't get behind.
