Portishead - Dummy
60

When Dummy leans more into the trip hop sounds, they find great success in producing a rare sound with raw, melancholic vocals over classic electronic drums and scratches. There are a lot of tracks where this sound is abandoned for more bare soundscapes, focusing more on the vocal performances, which although they do sound nice, get stale quite quickly. Sometimes the sounds used can have that early electronic sound but generally sound quite dated and unpalatable. This can also be said for the ... read more

Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica
70

There are quite a few nice, moody atmospheres which oddly remind me of underwater life, with deep basses resembling the call of a whale; very calming, very immersive. Unfortunately, some tracks feel repetitive and annoying, with Sleep Dealer, Child Soldier and Nassau being prime examples where I believe Oneohtrix favoured being unorthodox over song structure too much. The rougher moments of the album stick on particular songs, so the highs shine really bright regardless.
I'd recommend ... read more

Bladee - 333

Songs vary from catchy to overwhelmingly ambient and I'm here for it ;)

Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
80

If aliens come down don't play this they'll think we're copying their style. Feels surreal, sounds mysterious, not all tracks feel distinct enough to return to but I'm liking it.

bl4ck m4rket c4rt - Today I Laid Down
100

This album is gut wrenching and will weigh on you with its thick distorted guitars and synths and devastating lyrics. This is music that makes you feel, and that is awesome and heartbreaking simultaneously.

Yung Lean - Stranger
80

Based on the first five tracks, I expected this album to be a 100, however Stranger shows Lean at his most and least mature. A lot of songs provide some really special ideas I've never heard before in great execution, while other tracks, like Push, Salute, and Drop It, all feel like blemishes on the album, being repetitive and lacking the flow or insight found on the better tracks.
Focusing on the highs, Lean often raps or sings in a style you'll never hear anywhere else and ... read more

Bladee - EXETER
80

This is pretty great as an experience but I don't see myself coming back to very many of these tracks, whether that be due to individual replayability or the songs generally melding together. The sound of the album is pretty cool, and Ecco's vocals sound equally as cool, so those tracks are my fav's.

Nirvana - In Utero
80

Really consistent album, but for me it wasn't staggering. Though I don't really see what separates it far from other grunge records, it was pretty good at keeping the energy up during a road trip and I'm happy about that

Sweet Trip - Velocity : Design : Comfort.
90

This album can really make you rethink how music should feel. Takes you out of your own head, away from your worries, super groovy, and presents sounds you haven't heard before. Really great project.

Boards of Canada - Trans Canada Highway
80

This is not how the trans canada highway feels, but it is how a downtempo record should feel. A really stellar project.

Lil Ugly Mane - MISTA THUG ISOLATION
90

I'm the 4000th review!
I love this project. Gangsta rap lyricism with horror and ambient samples is amazing. It brings a certain level of energy which is practically unmatched. The beats never miss, and those jazzy horns sound great.

Bladee - Evil World

hopes for new album to be as good as its singles

Bladee - Inferno

good song make me feel

Drain Gang - GTBSG
90

Every song on this release is pretty great. I don't imagine myself coming back to tracks like Diamonds or Moon Girl, but they fit in and add to the experience. This is also my favourite Drain Gang release so far, and seems to be cardinal to their sound. The only moments I heard a vocal brashness which I find somewhat common on Drain Gang & SBE tracks aren't prominent beyond Black Kray's verses.

jonatan leandoer96 - Blodhundar & Lullabies
80

This album has some stellar soundscapes, and you can really tell the amount of passion that went into this album. Everything ends up blending together well, and leandoer's voice becomes its own instrument as opposed to a more brash noise which we have seen in previous tracks.
Everything has it's own identity and as a record it feels very unique. I personally believe his voice not meeting the industry standard pushed his voice into a more experimental sound which is very enjoyable on ... read more

The Stuff - Frog Bouquet: Covers from Our Space
50

The frog is a 10/10, but the album is alright. I'm actually surprised that such a well produced and consistent album has such a little following, it's not bad at all.
Tracks like I'm Bored are really cheesey, but Neat Neat Neat, The Price of Love, and Father Christmas are catchy, even if they don't do anything very unique.

Drake - If You're Reading This It's Too Late
50

This album brings uninteresting sonics, lyrics, vocals, and only separates itself from Drakes catalogue in its proficient consistency.

Drake's vocals fail to grab my interest, his delivery was consistently flat. In contrast to delivery, the flows Drake finds are very well suited to the OVO pop-rap style, which makes this album many reviewers' favourite, and expanded its impact on the scene. I find it a little restrictive on Drake in regards to direction and substance.
Lyrically, this ... read more

Black Country, New Road - Forever Howlong
80

Black Country, New Road displays their storytelling abilities and their skill to compose smooth, tuneful sounds without either taking a backseat on Forever Howlong.
As an introduction to Black Country, New Road for me, the album was unexpectedly rich and vivid with consistently emotional moments smeared across tracks. To many of those more informed, this album did not meet expectations. I can't really picture this album falling short of anything.. It was really both cohesive and consistent ... read more

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
70

Tha Carter III is a solid album often polarized by its great hits, and its unwelcome tracks.
Does Lil Wayne express a lyrical ability to find a place in the top ten rappers of all time? No. Might one get groovy? Likely.
The album begins dynamic, Mr. Carter and A Milli are my most memorable and well-constructed songs on the album, consequentially it feels as if the album falls further into a confused sound as it progresses. Tie My Hands and Mrs. Officer prove this wrong, and make the album to ... read more

Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D.
0

The E.N.D is a lazily produced, and in almost every case, conceptually, thematically, and lyrically abysmal.
I personally couldn't name any Black Eyed Peas song beyond the popular tracks, and after this listen, I still can't name any more.. besides ring-a-ling which may be permanently engraved into my brain.
This album drags on with the same beats cycled through for a four minute track and seemingly tweaked for a whole album. A large majority of these tracks were terrible, especially ... read more
