As an introduction to Toro y moi, I'm honestly super disappointed. Up until now I only ever knew of mirage, and I honestly think that song is a masterpiece and perfect, but the rest of the album was mediocre. The first three songs were amazing, but then the album is just super inconsistent starting from "pavement" down to "girl like you", which throws everything off and is unenjoyable. But I do think the rest of the album after that makes up for the middle. I was really ... read more
Listened to this a week ago, forgot to rate it. Anyways, I've been really liking ovrkast for almost a year now, and I think he could really become mainstream soon. This album for me, sounds like ovrkast trying something new with his formula, like aspects of trap in the production and catchy hooks. It's something new and it's very good, and the features are all amazing, with MAVI and Vince staples standing out for me. I wanted this to be a new favorite of mine, but I think I still ... read more
Near perfection throughout the whole thing, even though it's really short, it's still so packed with amazing lyrics and instrumentals. The production on the album is very classical and upbeat, even with the albums deep message about a close one passing away. My only gripe is that the features feel unnecessary, as McKinley out raps them anyways. But overall this was a great introduction to McKinley Dixon as an artist, and very happy with the listen!
I don't think I have enough IQ for this. I know that to actually understand Billy's lyrics, I'm gonna have to listen to this 2 more times, but I don't think I will like to go back. Some songs are very, very enjoyable, but most are way too complicated; hence why I need to re-listen to get the full gist of it. This album is very hard hitting and feels really powerful for Billy, but in some cases Kenny's beats outshine Billy's dull rapping (only some songs tho). When ... read more
Hot take but I really don't like ASAP at all, I find his raps really boring.
This song is actually really good. I'm not joking I actually think this is a good song
Everything about this is just an insult to Juice. This makes me appreciate his other albums even tho they also weren't good.
I don't even like Travis, but if u don't like this song then just get new ears.
I like the production, but Ghostface killah lacks many things to be desired as a vocalist for the instrumentals. I really think this could've been way better, I really like the idea of this Jazz rap fusion project.
I think jazz is slowly developing into my favorite genre. Well, thats kinda a stretch, but these guys leave me to believe otherwise. This is actually insane. It baffles me. When I thought it wasn't gonna get better, it got better! This album just also perfectly describes that feeling of driving late at night when its raining, just simply relaxing.
I mean, nle does cook lowkey but it's still thick of it, aka, not a good song.
First, that nasty ass cover made me avoid this for so long, like it looks so unappealing, why TF did u go with 2 pig Heads? Anyways, this might be the best produced album I've ever listened to, definitely my favorite alchemist album. The rapping is really good from Armand Hammer, but I'd actually rather listen to the alchemists beats by themselves, that shit was therapeutic and beautiful throughout the whole album.
I didn't even listen to this, nor plan on listening to this, but uzi, it might be time to hang the cleats up.
Bloated and messy for sure, but a very entertaining and fun listen the whole way! The feature list is fucking insane on this album too. and they managed to mix so much different artists and genres into one LP, I recommend to go check this one out for yourself.
