This is the rawest, most rock and rollin, soul searchiest live performance I have heard in my entire life. Jason Molina was something special, and this is some of the best evidence I've heard to support that. "The heart is a risky fuel to burn," "Being in love means being completely broken," Cabwaylingo still being one of the best songs ever written but heavier this time, Tigress being in peak form, more ghosts, more cynicism, more poetic profundity stacked in ... read more
Extraordinary display of everything that American Primitivism can be, this song is so warm, lush, and longing and is a perfect demonstration of the beauty of Hayden Pedigo’s music.
Such a euphoric MPB experience, I am truly grateful to Geordie Greep for the recommendation.
The energy this album carries through its quite short runtime is pretty remarkable. The complex but repetitive rhythms contrast fantastically with the almost laid back keyboards and guitars and the frantic vocals, which makes for a super unique blend of sounds. The danceability of this thing is also wonderfully enjoyable, and I can’t wait to listen to this thing on repeat for the foreseeable future.
One of the most explosive emo projects I have heard this decade, this EP is freaking awesome!
One of the gentlest and most thoughtful solo guitar records I have come across recently. It is amazing how much soul can be communicated through good fingerpicking, and Barry Archie Johnson is a master at doing just that.
This is one of my favorite albums ever. I heavily associate many of these songs with the worst times of my life, and yet Dear Nora was such a well of comfort in that time. The simplicity of much of this album is so, so endearing, and if any album in the world were to be my comfort album for the rest of my life, this would be a top contender.
Insane how Cameron Picton and Geordie Greep released 3 of the best projects I heard in 2024. This continues the beautiful soundscapes heard on 44m50s whilst focusing more intently on the things that made that mixtape so great. There is no solo artist on Earth whose growth I look forward to witnessing more than Cameron’s.
Cameron put crack in this project. This is such a well done solo record, from the amazing vocal harmonies to the beautiful instrumentals to the consistency. Drinking Age is so addicting to listen to, as sad as it makes me. I have very few complaints about Heavy Metal (Try As I May being one of them), and the way Cameron’s influences are incorporated so seamlessly into these ten recordings make me think that we are seeing the beginnings of one of the next great American artists in the ... read more
I think that if there exists a perfect album in the universe, Hejira is the best contender. It’s sweet, it’s sorrowful, and it is unlike any other album I’ve ever heard. It’s also a perfect road trip album, a perfect bedtime album, a perfect waking up album, and a perfect album to calm you down in moments of anxiety. I’ll probably write an essay on this album at some point, because Hejira, amongst a select few other albums, makes me feel okay, no matter what is ... read more
I don’t know what it is about this rather straightforward indie rock album that keeps me coming back. Maybe it is the honesty with which Jim O’Rourke performs these songs. Maybe it’s the yearning lap steel on Good Times. But this album is intangibly incredible. One of the best indie rock albums of all time, from one of the best songwriters ever.
These guys know how to craft the sweetest chord progressions, the catchiest melodies, and the most nostalgic ‘60s and ‘70s sounds without sounding dated. This album is an absolute pleasure to listen to
That’s Shmap’n Shmazz to you, sir.
Greatest jazz album of all time!?!?
