My first time listening to this artist's stuff under any of her monikers. It was nice I liked it. I enjoyed the harder moments more in general so maybe I should check out the original album
I've never really listened to much uhhhh "cunt pop"(?), but this was pretty damn good
Woah that was a marked improvement over her first album. This sounds like someone a lot more confident with their tools than what was on Pantheon of Me. Though I did like the spare, experimental sounds on that album, this one feels very deliberate and well-constructed in comparison
A lot of very cool and interesting synth sounds. On the whole, I found it didn't maintain my attention very much, but it has stand out moments that make it worth it in my books. I certainly wouldn't lock in and focus on this album too closely tho
Fantastic album that was my rock throughout my first time travelling abroad alone. That was a complete ordeal that had me in a panic attack at the end of day one and disillusioned with Air Canada forevermore by day seven. Not an exaggeration when I say listening to this on repeat during that whole thing is what kept me together.
Serious earworm of an album. Most of these songs live in my mind and come to me when I least expect it and thus, I give it another listen.
We're proud of who you are...
B1 is the best song on this very innovative and interesting album. It's a simple concept, but an undoubtedly resonant one executed beautifully. A chaotic, adversarial world trying its hardest to beat you down, followed by Kate Bush's emotionally powerful voice repeating words of affirmation, in an almost pleading or begging way, in a calming and relaxed soundscape more reminiscent of modern day slushwave.
The first part of this track is made of ... read more
I was thinking about rating this a little lower because it really just sounds like most Bossa Nova I've heard. But then I realized that of course it does! This album is foundational! Extremely easy listening. I played it twice in a row without really thinking about it! Extremely pleasant
This album really feels like something that would be extremely difficult to make today. The sheer authenticity that comes through in the recording quality. If I heard these played live, they would of course be beautiful, but the imperfections and compression that comes inherent to the means of recording and playback available to Cotten adds something special. This combined with skilled playing and unique singing adds an unmistakably warm, human touch.
This record seems to me to be enhanced ... read more
So many people are so extreme about this dude's stuff. Why's everything gotta be either life changing or failing at being life changing. It's alright for this spectacle-music to exist and be an interesting thing in its own way. I've only heard this album from him thus far so it's quite possible his late work gets unlistenable, but those track scores just seem odd to me. I certainly wasn't "touched" by this album but also why do I need to be. Other ... read more
They picked some good ones from the debut at least. Plus the new songs aren't bad. The production is noticeably terrible tho. Even for a Walmart exclusive lmao
In a word: SOUL
I like around half the songs but not that much. I'm neither a woman nor a country enjoyer, so not a total surprise.
The Outside is the best on here imo. The only one I've returned to after the fact. That song is like an 8/10
This one has stuck with me. I've had tinnitus from birth, so I use music to help me sleep. The best type for me tends to be drone-y ambient, which there is plenty of. But the best of the best for my purposes needs to have a strong melodic nature. Just moments of it. This album is one of my absolute favourites. Other desert sand projects have a few songs I return to often with the rest being pretty good but nothing that compels me to listen to anything but the few parts I love. This album ... read more
This album is good, but that last track is incredible.
I've loved this album since I first listened to it in 2016 at the age of 14. Maybe a score of 100 could be thought of as pure bias, but this LP is so foundational to my current taste in music and it still feels like a fresh listen even now that I've heard it probably a hundred times or more. Still a go-to and one of my all time favourites.
I love it!
