This track carries the eerie aura of a creepy nursery rhyme: grotesque, warped and unsettling. If the new album commits to this kind of cultish tone throughout, I’m genuinely hyped for the full release.
Some tracks are too short for many effects to be fully realized. The latter half of the album is comparatively much better, as the song lengths are increased.
A pleasant and fun pop album. Some quirky vocals and arrangements are the finishing touches that make it full of vitality.
If the last album I've Seen a Way was a heart-pounding swirl of unease and dread, then the new album URGH is an unhinged outburst of mania and primal screaming.
I miss the creative inspiration in their music from some earlier EPs. Some tracks on their debut album come off as overly flat by comparison, as if they’ve hit a creative slump.
This electronic ambient album features a cryptic and secluded jungle-tribe style, with much of its timbre design and arrangement brimming with the unbridled vitality of wild growth.
The lyrics are poetic and evocative, with particularly interesting metaphors—such as wolves symbolizing the crowd, and flowers representing painful psychological struggles. Searows delivers a vocal performance that is rich and emotionally resonant, unfolding the narrative with an intimate, storytelling quality. This is perfectly complemented by the delicate textures of the chords and the banjo, creating an exquisite sonic atmosphere. The track Dearly Missed stands out as a highlight. ... read more
Gone are all the singular musical flourishes she unveiled on I Disagree and Eat—over half the tracks on this album sink into the same abysmal, formulaic mediocrity that plagues so much modern metalcore, fading from memory the second they end. Poppy now comes off as little more than a musical puppet for Jordan Fish, stripped down to a hollow shell of safe, tedious sound... Dying To Forget alone stands as one of the record’s rare highlights.
Maintaining the overwhelming production quality of Sunbather, this album continues the atmosphere creation that could move stones to tears, as seen in Ordinary Corrupt Human Love. It successfully conveys the themes of loneliness, pain, and regret that Infinite Granite failed to fully express. The album achieves a new height in coherence throughout its career, with lyrics reaching their peak, beautiful as poetry.
In stark contrast to the softer, more dreamy, and even more passionate style of his later works, M83's early works are sharp, cold, and silent. Every note built by electronic shoegaze and ambient music reveals loneliness, confusion, and a complex sadness. All the passages point to a desolate and empty apocalyptic scene—dead cities, red seas and lost souls.
The rich instrumental performances and arrangements, the brilliant and witty lyrics, and the satirical message that builds upon the vocals and instruments create a playful and humorous effect. It's a step up from their previous album.
The most surprising album of 2025. Anna once again surpasses herself, maintaining a high standard while skillfully mastering multiple musical styles. The instrumental arrangements are expansive and dynamic, and the powerful vocal performance is vivid and expressive, constructing an epic scene that touches the soul. Anna wanders on the border between civilization and wilderness, exploring life, death, and time like a bard, praising love and beauty, showing compassion for the suffering of the ... read more
The music is heart-wrenching, the lyrics are dark, cruel, humorous, and incisive. It portrays the lives of countless ordinary people, as helpless and lonely as those in the lyrics. The dilapidated small-town life, the constraints of their families of origin, and the constraints of religion are like unsolvable puzzles. All the complex emotions explode with frenzied screams and guitar riffs.
