In Solitude - Sister
95

This is what Tobias Forge wanted Ghost to be, but he had to settle for the crappy Pop "Metal" "Occult Rock" he's being releasing to the unsuspected masses.
This is the real deal! Nice guys finish last, though... :( Life isn't fair.

Budhi - Budhi
85

A killer mix of Mr. Bungle, Dog Fashion Disco and Tool with dashes of Nu-Metal.

Survivor - Burning Heart
100

I always liked this one much more than Eye of the Tiger.

Starship - We Built This City
100

Why do you hate this song? This is a great melodic rock anthem!

Beastie Boys - Sabotage
100

Adrenalin fueled rock song that hits harder than most so called rock bands in their entire career.

Regina Spektor - You've Got Time
80

Yeah, the song from Orange Is the New Black.

Beck - Loser
85

Overrated musician, but this songs rocks hard. The only Beck song I can listen to.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give It Away
100

Their best song. It’s all downhill from here.

Snow - Informer
65

This is utterly cheesy, but it bangs... somehow. Like a moth to a flame.

Sonic Youth - 100%
100

100% of course! ;)

Gargamel - Descending
90

The Norwegians Gargamel return with their second studio album, "Descending". The 4 tracks (around 47 minutes) drift somewhere between 70s Nordic Progressive Rock, Post-Rock, Doom Rock, with a few hints of Psychedelic and Folk. "Descending" reveals a darker, more introspective, depressive, and melancholic Gargamel. Alongside the traditional trio of guitar/bass/drums, there are occasional passages of numerous other instruments that add an extra color to the Gargamel sound.

Gösta Berlings Saga - Detta har hänt
70

The Swedish instrumental quartet Gösta Berlings Saga is back. “Detta Har Hänt” includes 8 tracks in just over 53 minutes. Basically, that’s what you could call GBS's sound: Progressive Rock. One of the positive points of the album is that it was recorded live in the studio, thus preserving some organic intensity and energy that could be lost otherwise. Only a few overdubs with additional sounds were made. One of the negative points, which is the ... read more

The Few Against Many - SOT
90

The Few Against Many is a new Swedish project founded by vocalist Christian Älvestam (ex-Scar Symmetry, Unmoored, Torchbearer). And if mentioning Christian isn't enough to grab your attention, here are the other names in the lineup: Pär Johansson (Satariel, Demiurg), Patrik Gardberg (Torchbearer), Jani Stefanovic (Miseration, Solution .45), and Anders Edlund (Incapacity, Angel Blake).
Additionally, we have lyrics penned by Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquility) and Jonas Renkse ... read more

Bone Gnawer - Feast of Flesh
90

Project with one foot in the USA and the other in Sweden, Bone Gnawer features in its line-up Kam Lee (Massacre, ex-Mantas/Death), Rogga Johansson (Paganizer, Demiurg, Ribspreader), Morgan Lie (Naglfar) and Ronnie Bjornstrom (Ribspreader, Hate Amno). In addition, we also have guttural contributions from Killjoy (Necrophagia) and Dopi (Machetazo). Musically, Bone Gnawer plays a Gore/Horror Death Metal with inspirations from 90s Floridian and Swedish Death, along with some 80s Deathrash touches. ... read more

My Own Grave - Necrology
65

After an album and an EP, the Swedish band My Own Grave returns with 11 new tracks under the title 'Necrology', where 'old school' merges with a more modern sound. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Dan Swano at his Unisound, 'Necrology' leans more towards the territories of Floridian Death, although it has some elements of typical Swedish Death. It is heavy and brutal enough; the musicians know what they are doing and do not leave credits to others; the production ... read more

Sanctification - Black Reign
70

They are Swedish but bet on a typically North American sound. Death Metal with inspirations from Morbid Angel or Hate Eternal is what they offer us. To be honest, this type of Death Metal doesn't appeal to me much. It’s well done, brutal, intense, and the musicians don’t leave credit to others, but it's nothing transcendental. Just for fans of this type of sound. I give credit to the band, and it's in that perspective that I give them a high percentage, but I prefer ... read more

Dawnrider - Two
85

I've been paying attention to Dawnrider since the debut 7". The debut album, "Alpha Chapter" (Raging Planet, 2007), was a powerhouse of Heavy Rock with retro contours. In this new work, they move a bit away from the 70s Heavy Rock of that debut and embrace a sound closer to Doom a la Sabbath / Pentagram / Saint Vitus with elements of Space Rock / Psychedelic inspired by Hawkwind and even some 1969s Psychedelic Rock. It opens with the psychedelic "Scared Of Light"; ... read more

Dawnrider - Alpha Chapter
95

I had been waiting a long time for the debut album from Dawnrider. I had really enjoyed the split EP with War Injun, but two tracks felt too little. At the time I thought, 'Okay, another excellent band that will disappear without a trace due to lack of support from the public, record labels, media, etc.' It’s a typical situation in Portugal. I’m glad I was wrong, and here are two thumbs up for Dawnrider for their perseverance and to Daniel from Raging Planet for the ... read more

"That is true. I dislike rap music, and love this song. Great anthemic song."

"I have to agree with you in every aspect. I remember buying this limited edition double-CD for quite a big amount of money, just because I was a big fan of both musicians (Patton and Zorn), only to be underwhelmed by the content. It is not that bad as an experiment. As far as I know this was all improvised. I'm pretty sure the musicians involved had a lot of fun. I'm just not that excited. Just one little detail, spicyb, you refer to Ikue Mori as a "he", and in fact is a "she". :)"

"Exactly my thoughts on this record. It's OK, but it didn't do anything for me. It's good for one listening session. That's it. No song stayed with me for long."
