Toby Fox - DELTARUNE Chapters 3+4 (Original Game Soundtrack)
83

Finally I'm actually giving this OST a full proper listen, I listened to so many tracks outside of the game lmaooo (and I'll review chap 1 and 2 some other time, just prioritizing this for my own year-end list)

omg guys get this: toby fox is a good composer no way :0

Let's get the obvious out of the way: it's a Toby Fox soundtrack. (OMG NO WAY!!!1!!) You'll find all the motif interplay and banging OSTs you can on here, and there are a LOT of bangers on here, which is ... read more

Danny Brown - Stardust
94

Danny Brown is already one of my favorite rappers from what I've heard from him, Atrocity Exhibition being one of my only 100s, so of course I'll keep an eye on everything the guy has to offer, and Stardust definitely skyrocketed to being one of my fav albums of his!

I love how much of an hyperpop-hip hop hybrid this album is, keeping Danny's unique delivery on really cool electronic beats, making for a really bold, adventurous and engaging project that manages to stay cohesive ... read more

Jake Ryan - Blind
73

Thanks @JakeDaSwag for the rec!!

This is a cheery happy project! You can tell these tracks were made with love and care, and the joy they bring is infectious! The choruses are catchy, the structures are top-notch and the overall energy of this project is enough to bring a smile on my face!
I'd say the only bit of criticism I have is that while the album is very consistently well-made and executed, it also doesn't vary a lot in terms of ideas and can feel a bit campy for the first 4 ... read more

Danefae - Trøst
78

Thanks @mj04 for the rec!

Trost (idk how to do the ø on my keyboard lol) is an airy, pretty listen mixed with more metal moments, but still a record that focused on vocals first and really tries to envelop you in a specific atmosphere. And the vocals are definitely my favorite part of this, they're gorgeous on the quieter parts, and the more keyboard oriented instrumentation really helps to elevate the music to make it distinct! The folky mood to the whole record feels really cool, ... read more

Moya - For J.
70

Thanks @Arctic29 for the rec!

This is a pretty short EP about loss, and it's a nice tribute to J! The feelings of loss and confusion are well transcribed here, and the emotion in the music gets across! So I want you to know that even if I have issues with the project, it doesn't in anyway invalidates your feelings and the way you expressed them, and these are all me things, this IS a good EP (you can tell by the green score even!)

But unfortunately, in the first track specifically ... read more

Noise Trail Immersion - Tutta La Morte In Un Solo Punto
88

Thanks @Gaynebula for the recommendation! ^^

Holy shit this is HEAVY! The amount of layers mixed with the dissonant guitars makes for a massive wall of sounds and textures where it feels like you always have something to pay attention to, while the sheer aggresivity of it all makes for one of the most METAL metal albums I've listened to in a while. Not only that, but the songs and album being as concise as they are feel perfect for an album this heavy makes it so that despite still having ... read more

Between the Buried and Me - The Blue Nowhere
92

1000TH RATING LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO

Between The Buried And Me is my personal favorite band of all time, as I'm sure is obvious when seeing that they have made my n°1 and n°2 favorite albums of all time, and these guys have remained incredibly consistent, Automata being the only record I didn't care that much about from them ever since they started their now 20-year-old run with Alaska.

As such, it's fair to say that coming into The Blue Nowhere, their first album in 4 ... read more

Esbi - Love You To Bits (Original Soundtrack)
NR

Aaaaaand last bit of self-promo until I release something ACTUALLY new, phew! (please aoty team don't ban me for uploading 2 projects back to back, only time it'll happen i swear ;-;)

also yeah I spent zero time on the cover LMAOOOOOO

also also if you ever listen to this, I think the compositions are (mostly) great but I sure hope you like stock synth sounds LOL

ALSO also also, you can play the game here: https://esbi.itch.io/love-you-to-bits

Esbi - Never A Matter Of Time (Original Soundtrack)
NR

Last bunch of self-promo OST releases before I'm done with it until whenever next visual novel project drops!

So this is the 1st OST I made ever, don't expect anything too great, but it's also the shortest one I made that isn't just one track lol

If you want to play the actual game instead, it's available here: https://esbi.itch.io/never-a-matter-of-time

Flummox - Southern Progress
88

Thanks @Awoo for the rec!

This is a really cool prog metal album on the quirkier side, wasn't surprised to find that Max Mobarry of Others by No One is one of the band members (and I love ObnO, so that definitely made me interested in that project from the get-go LOL)
It's fun, all-over the place and always keeps a sense of humor, with heavy riffs and chaotic instrumentation that never fails to be satisfying. It's bouncy, fun, and it BANGS with intensity and creativity, while ... read more

Kelxton - Juno
77

Thanks @sunnyxeleton for the rec (and sorry I got to it so late ;-;)

This was pretty good! The stripped-back instrumentation (being mostly just a guitar) gives out a really intimate feel that really works at giving some emotional weight to the songs, helped by the guitar plucking noises and other organic sounds, the lo-fi vibes fit the overall laid-back aesthetic of the EP really well! It really seems to try being a comfortable, airy listen that you just enjoy without thinking much about it ... read more

Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper
81

Immersion is the name of the game here, for better or for worse.

I've never listened to Quadeca before this, so I didn't know what to expect. Turns out, this album is one that really focuses on its soundscapes and atmosphere, making for a deeply textured and lush listen instrumentally, giving a very floating, aquatic sound to the record (although maybe the album cover may have influenced my thoughts there) and as the instrumentals are clearly the album's main focus, the ... read more

Joviac - Autofiction Pt. 1 - Shards
74

i need to find more time to be active on this site (and every other time I tried listening to this album I got interrupted in some way or another lol), anyway THANKS @Awoo FOR THE REC! (also I'll try to prioritize the recs that came this year from now on, cause me not being here that much causes my queue to be pretty big, on top of all the new releases I want to check LOL)

I don't really have much to say honestly, it's a solid prog metal album, very much in the same vein as most ... read more

Esbi - Patience is a Virtue (Original Soundtrack)
NR

bruh I feel like all I'm doing is self promo rn cgdsvcgfvdnqvcndvc I swear I'll get to actual reviews I just need timeeeeeeeee

Anyways, play Patience is a Virtue! It's a really short (hence the fact the OST is just one song) visual novel I made and it's cool according to the people who tried it and uhhhhh yeah I'm not good at marketing my stuff lol, link here: https://esbi.itch.io/patience-is-a-virtue

Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out
72

First time listening to anything related to Pusha T woo!

This is a great album, don't get me wrong, but I don't really have much to say about it? It's very competent hip-hop for sure though: the flows are great, and the production slaps, and the album is really consistent, but I can't really pick anything I love just as much as I can't pick anything I dislike. If anything, it feels like a great album by default more than a big statement. I can absolutely see why some ... read more

Vylet Pony - Love & Ponystep
94

FINALLY getting some time off to listen to this let's goooooooooo

Love & Ponystep is an album I've been eagerly waiting to check out, considering Monarch of Monsters is my current album of the decade and I could only ask myself "where do you go from here?". Seeing that the next album seemed to be a complete 180 only hyped me further, and I wanted to stay as clear of the album as possible. I thought that this would be a dumbing down project more focused on the bangers, ... read more

Esbi - Words Left Unsaid (Original Soundtrack)
NR

Play Words Left Unsaid here, it's probably my favorite thing I've made and it's really short too! https://esbi.itch.io/words-left-unsaid

Yet another soundtrack anniversary release!! Since this was for an O2A2 jam game (jams are when you're given a specific time frame to do a game from scratch, and O2A2 specifically stands for Only One of Any Asset, which includes the music), I could only do one track, but it is one I'm very proud of and that fits the story well!

Carbonated Water - Wenig Kohlensäure
75

Thanks @frogofprog for the rec!

This is a pretty cool record! The various riffs are fun, the instrumentation is really good, and the whole project overall sounds great! You can really feel the live experience of a bunch of people in the studio jamming out! The vocals are definitely the weakest part of the project, but they still carry enough raw energy to feel cohesive in the tracks they are in, especially Crack Cocaine.
The jams, while entertaining, are also not really something I like that ... read more

Blasphemous Basement - The Wrong Side Of The Bed
63

Thank you @Bean_1028 for the recommendation!

The Wrong Side Of The Bed is one of these albums that throw everything and the kitchen sink with it, leading to an avalanche of chaotic, pummeling and relentless noise, all without taking itself too seriously. You can tell the band had a lot of fun on this record, and that leads to an overall pretty fun experience!

Sounds like a great fit if you know my taste! Experimental, noisy rock with some extended song structures, and overall fun music is up ... read more

Moya - 太陽の向こうの星へ [To The Stars Beyond The Sun]
87

Thanks @Arctic29 for the recommendation, and sorry I got to it so late! (and sorry for not buying it this time, finances are kinda tight ^^')

To The Stars Beyond The Sun is everything I could ask from a project focused on being a vibe: it's entrancing in its rhythm and repetition while being engaging still to listen to. A lot of these more laid back projects feel like they only work as background listens, while giving them your full attention feels like a slog, and while the 2 hour ... read more

"@JakeDaSwag Don't worry too much about it if you're just starting, it's normal to take a lot from your influences before being able to fully give your own touch to a style! Just shows you have a good foundation and should definitely build on it on your next project, whenever it may be! ^^"

I think you nailed it by saying this is less of a proper metal album and moreso uses metal as the connective tissue to stitch everything together, metal itself is mostly on the longer tracks, great review!"
