Nick Drake - Pink Moon
99

I've listened to this around fifty times in the past month, it's some sort of obsession. It feels as though he is beckoning to me with these gentle vocals and flawless guitar, I can kind of see him, sitting on a stool pouring his heart out to me, and I'm the entire audience. I feel like I'm intruding whenever I listen to it, but it sweeps me up so entirely I can't leave, and for twenty eight minutes I'm stuck in this painful comfort, I can feel what he is saying so clearly, I can picture ... read more

Hobo Johnson - Peach Scone
NR

This is like the worst song I’ve heard alongside FACK by Eminem. Hate every second, but have this morbid fascination where I keep listening to it because it’s so bad… I don’t know what that’s about.

Jeff Buckley - Grace
73

As a whole it’s devastating, and its highs are amongst the highest, but moments of it fall slightly short. It’s stunning though, and it is in my heavy rotation, so it’s clearly doing something right.

Swans - The Glowing Man

One of those albums that gets better every time I hear it. Granted I am a swans fan, but I find their music so distinct and otherworldly, I don’t know how anyone could not be a fan. This album in particular is the one I keep returning to, it’s sound builds so cleverly throughout, and it’s use of vocals is nothing short of incredible, it’s used so much more instrumentally than anything else, and it just adds to this beautiful, shifting wall of sound. One of the most ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers

Mr Morale and the Big Steppers is easily the most mature we’ve seen Kendrick. He’s a different person to his earlier albums, and his work here feels wiser and in many ways less harsh than his previous work. It feels like he’s grown, and it’s really beautiful to listen to.

Mother i Sober is probably one of his best songs, Beth Gibbons is literally the perfect choice for the hook. It’s quietly devastating- a lot of which is down to Kendrick’s vocals, which ... read more

De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising
79

Incredibly fun. Has some whack bars here and there but the highs are incredibly high, and it put a massive smile on my face. I can see the score rising in future.

Kofi Stone - Nobody Cares Till Everybody Does
80

Makes me so sad more people don’t know this. Flows so delightfully and his storytelling is beautiful. A great debut and a great jazz rap album.

Radiohead - Kid A
NR

Simply transcendent. So relentlessly impressive, with an organic fusion of ambient synth and post-rock, that it is difficult not to be lulled into its artistry. For me, easily the best thing the band has put out. And that is just talking about idioteque.

"Nah man this will only grow on you there’s so much music and the more you hear the more you realise how ahead of it’s time this record is. Fair play it’s not for everyone but I had the same reaction when I first listened to it and I came back to it the other day after listening to a good thousand more albums and adored it."
