The hype was unreal for Suddenly. Caribou had potential to put out an album of the year candidate based off of the singles. The songs Home and You And I gave me literal chills. Never Come Back was only okay to me but it was a really enjoyable song, so I figured it wasn’t a red flag or a drawback to the hype to this album. On Coin’s sophomore LP “How Would You Know…” the album starts with a song titled, “Don’t Cry (2020)”. The song is about worrying about the future and the inevitability of years passing. Coming into The Slow Rush, my hopes were low. I wasn’t a huge fan of Borderline and Lost in Yesterday was only okay for me at the time. I did thoroughly enjoy It Might Be Time and Posthumous Forgiveness. It wasn’t the case that I thought the record would be bad, I just really didn’t think it would come anywhere close to Currents.
