When listening to forevher, You get a sense that Shura went out to create a very bold record, there was lots of risks taken and so many rewards came from it. The song writing on this record was amazing, songs like "the stage" are so descriptive in nature that i wish there was a movie about this song in particular. The song to me is about a performer getting off stage mid performance to be with her lover, leaving the crowd dancing on the stage. This song has always painted a vivid ... read more
Dan Edmonds Good Fortune Assembly is one of my favorite releases of 2021. I discovered the Canadian artist last year with his record Softie and fell in love. I knew whatever he did in the future would be worth keeping an out out for and I was not disappointed at all. The Good Fortune Assembly is an album about regret, fear, and loss, and ultimately, growth and moving on. The song " I Wish I Could Be Open" is about, well wishing you can be open with someone, but being too afraid to. ... read more
On Dead Hand Control, Baio successfully reinvents himself with a new and distinct sound. One thing I love about this record is that Baio didn't shy away from longer tracks which is something I wish modern day music leaned more into. The tracks on this are phenomenal, from the catchy single Endless Me, Endlessly, to the the pulsating Dead Hand. The closer track was a little weak, but overall this was Baio's best work to date.
Forgettable album, all the tracks were mediocre. Nothing stood out as great, and nothing stood out as awful. Based on the album cover they should have just called the album Imagine Dragons
This is K.Flay in her prime. Would have been an album of the year contender if there was more songs. The music was danceable, the raps were on point and the songs were all great. While I can't put her in contention for album of the year, I'm sure she will be fine being the frontrunner for EP of the year
Best Track: TGIF
Its simple, it's striking, and never pretends to be something that it isn't. I Feel Alive by TOPS is a great album for the times, as it offers a light escape from the anxiety's of today. I have never heard of this group before last week, but I had a blast spinning this record the past couple of days. The album weaves through a great palette of emotions from songs like Ballads & Sad Movies, to more lighthearted, fun tracks like Drowning in Paradise. This sound provided on this record is ... read more
This album really lacks consistency throughout and its way too short. There are some really great tracks on this album, but most of them suffer from a huge problem. Chief, 6am are the biggest and most outlandish examples, but even Pretty Please falls under to this issue as with the rest of the record. Its just too short and doesn't build onitself. the song 6am comes in really well and it feels like its building to something great. For the first minute and a half it feels like it could be an ... read more
In 2016, shortly after the election of Donald Trump in the USA, there was some people that theorized that the election of Trump would pave the way for a punk rock revival. Obviously we have the advantage of hindsight and can clearly see that punk rock didn't breakout as people may have hoped. This album does everything that was wanted of the anticipated punk music revival and more. Its politically charged, its unpredictable, and its really clever.
The first song Colossus sets a tone for the ... read more
A strange mixture of 90's alternative inspired indie rock jams with a hint of indietronica to spice it up. 925 makes for an amazing recipe for success. This album feels almost as if Superorganism and Cage The Elephant started a super project. You can hear this comparison the most on the song Starstruck.
I love how this album incorporated the distorted guitar, every song with a guitar went for a dirty distorted sound instead of a clean sound. The album sound in general is cluttered with dirty ... read more
Childish Gambino is such an amazing artist, he can make a poor record really enjoyable. I really wanted to love this record but not even Gambino could salvage most of these songs.
The production on this record was really poor, songs like Algorhythm and 32.22 are prime examples of this. Weird choices were made on this record that really didn't glue together like the ending of Algorhythm where the whole track comes unglued, ruining any momentum it had.
This record lacked soul as well. Having ... read more
This is an album that is incredibly self aware... Self aware that the singles are significantly better than the rest of the batch. The first time I gave it a spin I almost gave up on it.
Tracks 1-6 feature good vocal performances from Able over uninteresting instrumentals. I really couldn't get into any of these tracks on any of my listens. The song Heartless being the first decent track on the record. It went into another decent song called Faith. Halfway thought that song a interlude to ... read more
Rich in sonic layers creating an atmosphere that is cold and calculated, Louis Prince's Thirteen is a true diamond in the rough. The muted horns, the shimmering synths and the Bon Iver type vocals created a unique sound that was consistently carried throughout the record. The tracks are slower and more chill by nature but they never lose your attention. The first 3 songs on the album are some of the best songs i've heard all year, The Number Thirteen gives me chills everytime! The album also ... read more
I really expected a lot from this record, Deleter was the first indie pop hit of the year, and Youth was a very strong single as well. This album really was a big disappointment to me. This album is definitely an example of a record that relies too much on the strength of the singles. The first half of the record is really where we find the weakness of Healer. With the exception of Youth and Deleter, all the weakest tracks land on the first half. The Great Unknown and Inside Out being by least ... read more
"I just want to be, fat and old, and happy" Daniel Armbruster sings at the end of Like a Kennedy, the album opener. This line serves as the thesis statement of possession, which is the desire to be free from possession, which is the control that things in our lives have. The song Like a Kennedy in particular is about the media's control on us, but they don't just stop at the media, the next 6 tracks go into the different types of possessions that Daniel seems to have encountered or ... read more
Okay, I know this criticism seems very specific but hear me out. Not alot of the choruses on this album were great. And all of the songs kept to the standard V, C, V, C, B C format and so when the chorus didn't work the song didn't go anywhere new or exciting like the album cover suggested it would. For a pop rock record, your chorus's better stick the landing otherwise the album will flop and I do think that's the case for the album here.
I will say whenever synths were incorporated it did add ... read more
Wasn't expecting to like this record as much as I do. Caroline Rose really blew me away with her ability to create quality songs and stitch them together in such a glamorous package. This record was extremely risky, but the execution was so exceptional that the risks taken didn't seem like risks, but more like a slam dunks.

Overcoats take up arms for their 2nd LP, The Fight. This album sees the New York duo struggling with relationships and the hardships of everyday life. The Fight is not a call to rebel, but it’s more of an anthem for people going through hard times. The Fight is about getting through everyday and making the most of what you have.
When Overcoats try to make an energetic song, they are one of the most unstoppable groups in the world. On songs like Apathetic Boys and Fire and Fury, you ... read more
Phantogram came in swinging into 2020. Their singles Into Happiness and In a Spiral were some of my personal favorites of 2019. Eventually the wait was over and Ceremony came. The album title intrigued me because it was a complete opposite of what the album cover looks like, it looks more like a funeral. But that is what they were going for, Phantogram have always played with light and dark so of course they are going to go into detail to do that.
The album starts with Dear God, an excellent ... read more
The hype around this record made me want to check it out color theory. As a fan of Indie rock I went in with high hopes, although i haven't listened to Soccer Mommy much in the past, I didn't let that stop me from being excited. unfortunately I was met with disappointment upon my multiple listens.
The problem I had with this record was that the songs never developed enough for me instrumentally. There was a couple songs that i felt that had potential, but usually they overstayed their ... read more
