Basilchord - Internet Is Weird

This is something called digicore? Am I getting that right? I don't know. But to my ears, it's a blend of trap beats, electronic music, pop, dub step, psychedelia, and a bit of hiphop. Sounds like someone working in a sound lab and putting together music Frankenstein.

At times, it's way to industrial dance club music for me. But there are some really good moments and grooves. "Compose Yourself" was my favorite track. "Hex" and "Good Friend, Best ... read more

The Kid LAROI - BEFORE I FORGET

The Weeknd/Bruno Mars style of hip-hop, R&B, pop that sounds sort of melancholy. The songs feel personal about breaking up, losing love, finding your way out of heartbreak, which is always a plus in my book, but, perhaps, tonally, it's a little repetitive. The vocals are very good. I like an emotive singer, and you can feel what Laroi is trying to convey with his voice but overall this wasn't for me.

I did like "July" and "Back When You Were Mine". And the ... read more

Dry Cleaning - Secret Love

For someone my age this is reminiscent of late 70s early 80s Bowie. Where vocals are almost spoken word with some singing and the music is funky and futuristic. Think Scary Monsters inspired. Ashes to Ashes and Fashion. So, is it modern rock? I don't know, but it's a very interesting and fun album to listen to.

Lyrically it comes across like satire or tongue in cheek. Makes me think of Pixies, Half Man Half Biscuit, and TMBG. A lot of metaphors that seems irreverent but ... read more

The Cribs - Selling a Vibe

Catchy, fast paced indie/alt-rock that knows how to find a hook and not overstay it's welcome. Has colors of power-pop lile a classic 70s band but the chunky, noisy riffs keeps it contemporary.

It's like, what if Badfinger was formed in 2005?

It's a real solid, competent album that may not stretch the boundaries that much, but it does what it does well. Hearing Beach Boy-esque harmonies against an indie rock background will never get old.

"Selling A Vibe", "A ... read more

Beyond The Black - Break The Silence

This is kind of a blend of pop music and symphonic metal. Its like "what if Pat Benatar was in a hard rock band from the 2000s"?

Jennifer Haben has impeccable vocals. The music is kind of like a symphony, riding waves of sounds. Super fasr drums. Harmonizing guitars. It's a fun thing to experience. It isn't too hard, and so it's tough for me to call this Metal. But it is dramatic and theatrical in a way that heavy metal can be. And it's fun to hear a German band ... read more

Alter Bridge - Alter Bridge

Rock band made up of some members from Creed that sounds heavier and more melodic than any Creed song I ever heard. They've got an old school Judas Priest metal streak in them here too Although it never goes as hard or fast, but there is definitely a fun, grunge, metal thing going on.

It's a no frills rock album that has chunky, operatic riffs, powerful vocals, and pretty killer drums. Its not my genre, but I'm really impressed with the muscianship here. If you like melodic ... read more

Sondre Lerche - Turning Up The Heat Again

Three track EP. Very intricate and well crafted songs. It's a marriage of indie pop and jazzy bossanova with some solid beats and a touch of experimentation. Songs feel pretty relevant. I liked this and hope it leads to a full album release this year. "...After the Coup" is especially gorgeous and haunting and is already one of my favorite songs of the year.

Paleface Swiss - The wilted EP
60

4 track EP from a hardcore band that sounds like thrash metal with what comes across as hiphop beats to my ears. It's almost like industrial music from when I was younger, and I really, really dig the music but man, the vocals are just too distracting for me even if I like how it's over modulated and sounds like it glitches with electricity. A fine effort here, but not for me.

Tijuana Taxi - Mirages
70

This is an experimental bit of music that combines rock, shoegaze, ambient, metal, slowburn reveal, and textured overlapping sounds. When you think it's going to grab you with a hook, it pulls the rug out.

Some song like "Dru" sound a bit more straightforward, and while still fuzzy and indecipherable, you can figure out what they're doing. But then they give you this sonic slow burn like "Slip Oit" where it feels like time ia collapsing on top of you. Then it ... read more

Kid Kapichi - Fearless Nature

I like this fuzzy, over modulated style where the vocals can get distorted and echo. It's almost like the music is soft and hard all at once. Atmospheric, moody, and prickly. Some tracks are explosive new punk coded. That almost electronic crackle. Others slow down and put you at ease.

Lyrically, while political at times, it feels like a more inward focused album. Dealing with questions about who our leaders are and how the state of the world can affect your mental health. It can be ... read more

DZ Deathrays - Easing Out Of Control

A funky, catchy, eclectic rock album that at times gives me Black Keys, Jet, and Dramarama vibes. It is a chunky riff filled alternative rock album that's fun, loud, and a throwback that hammers out these little 3 minute bits of reliable rock.

Its not perfect, and I don't think it breaks the mold, but it's a fine album that knows how to find a hook with some attitude and flair.

"Easing Out Of Control", "Sideways", "Skyline" (My favorite track), ... read more

Blanket - True Blue

More throwback shoegaze sounding music made in 2026 where the fuzzy guitars seem to harmonize with each other as they ride a Rollercoaster of melody. The vocals are buried underneath everything which is great for conveying a tone, but makes them hard to understand. There is a bit of metal guitar every now and then, with a classic riff bubbling up, and the occasional hard core scream. The drums are a powerhouse. There are also a few, gorgeous, dreamy moments here that you could float away on. ... read more

Robbie Williams - BRITPOP

This kind of makes me think of when Billy Idol released Cradle of Love in the late 80s early 90s. A blend of Rock, pop, and polished guitar riffs and hooks that carry the more sentimental songs.

It feels perfectly crafted, if perhaps, a tad overproduced, which makes the authenticity of the artist hard to find at times. I love a wonderfully produced bit of pop-rock, but I also am drawn to when I can sense the beating heart underneath those pristine drum fills.

Basically everything here ... read more

They Might Be Giants - Eyeball

Look, I am in the bag for TMBG, so, they can do no wrong as far as I am concerned. And here on the EP Eyeball, they give us a few more gems and classic TMBG nuggets that are catchy, irreverent, clever, and to my ears, much deeper than they let off.

The three new songs are just chef's kiss and I hope this means we are getting more. The world is better and brighter with They Might Be Giants in it.

Yea Big - Visitor

A dreamy indie rock album that invokes Radiohead in their most ambient vibes. Seriously, "See To My Desire" comes across as something you create after listening to Kid A and No Rainbows all weekend.

But this one isn't derivative. It can also get a little bluesy. There are some Mark Knoffler like riffs on here along with a few hooks that have pop sensibilities like "Atop Your Shoulder".

Overall this album has a lot of gorgeous sequences on here and the vocals give me ... read more

Capillary - In Remembrance

A melodic rock album with some of that screamo stuff in there. A bit up and down for me. I think I like the more straightforward tracks here that don't have the metal edge.

For the most part it's competent, catchy, fuzzy sounding alternative rock with some real nice melodies. Kind of lole Bob Mould meets 2000s Emo Rock. Maybe?

My favoritetracks were "Lost Sleep" and "Impermanence".

The Blue Octavo - Exodus
75

A fun indie rock band that gives me Muse mixed with Queens of the Stoneage vibes. Drums are lile a thoroughbred horse just charging on you. And I really love the vocals production.

It's hard rock mixed with electronic sounds and maybe a little prog rock? Its a solid 3 song EP giving you a good taste of what they do. I thought all three tracks were solid.

Loveseeker - Summergaze
60

Classic sounding shoegaze where the vocals are buried under a haze of fuzzy, harmonizing guitars and the beat just drones on invoking an immediate emotional response. It can get very experimental with distortion and wall of noise stuff. I wish I could hear the vocals a bit better, because as is, it kind of sounds like Morrissey moaning over some very cool shoegaze melody. But if you like just melting into a vibe, this one is pretty good. Just not for me. Having said that "sunburn", ... read more

Alex Pester - Yours

This is a sort of folksy psychedelic 60s coded album that makes me think of British Invasion bands when they began to experiment with trippy music. For some reason it makes me think of The Kinks more than anyone else, but some of the vocal phrasing in the title track invokes a John Lennon Beatle-esque vibe. Some of the vocals effects make me think of Ween too.

It's a pretty solid album with cool riffs, experimentation in production, and clever lines. "Sister", ... read more

The Jewelry - Powder

A really solid mix of 90s Grunge sounding stuff and more contemporary indie rock. Its got some dreamy, psychedelic moments and reminds me.of Gish by The Smashing Pumpkins in how it marries this noise rock, shoegaze thing. But it can also be a loud, noisy thung like Mudhoney and Hole.

"Cake", "Kim", and "Please Kill Me" were highlights for me. Really enjoyed this one.
