This is overhated, but as someone who got into Bans during the Money So Long days, Misunderstood is a respectable but unwelcome change in direction. Yung Bans has been a frustrating character in the rap game, whether because of his house arrest and subsequent legal limitations, or the online trolling and teasing songs that never release, he's given plenty of reasons for people to hate him. His ego got way too big, and the commercial failure of this album proves that people were not here for it (bro made a song with Young Thug and Gunna but still couldn't get a million streams in a week). He obviously uses XXXtentacion's name for clout and often exaggerates the connection they had. I admittedly overhyped Bans when I first started listening to him, and now I feel bad for it. He's a capper in all senses of the word.
First of all, this album is way too long. I know that long albums are the trend now, to increase streams and give the labels more money, but this album suffers from all the mediocre and bad songs kept on. After a couple listens, over 50% of the songs had completely left my mind and I did not want to return to them. Hold Up is good, but a huge letdown considering its features. Prada Zombie and 100 Shells are good, Yeaaa is good. Many songs are good. But NOTHING slaps as hard as Dresser, Lonely, Bag, Ridin, or any of Yung Bans' other more popular songs.
I won't waste any more of my own time, or yours dear reader. This album is straight mid. Yung Bans is not Misunderstood, anyone with more than 2 brain cells to rub together knows that. Rather, he seems to misunderstand how to handle a career successfully.
