Cavetown - Running With Scissors
72

I follow Cave town on Bandcamp and was alerted to this release as it came out, after giving it a thorough listen or two, I quite enjoyed what he laid out for the album. The slower songs weren't personally my cup of tea, but I understood the lyrics and meaning behind them, and it didn't diminish how I felt about them. Naturally I leaned more towards the glitchy and angry sounding pop tracks like Reaper and Straight Through My Head being my top contenders, I feel like each song has a ... read more

Shayfer James - Summoning
73

As per usual with Shayfer James, I quite enjoy the more twisted, wicked and dark songs, while the more slow and passive songs didn't quite hit the right spots for me. Overall this is something I enjoy and will likely find myself looping some songs as the mood comes.

The Living Tombstone - Rust
36

Chat, this is so.... ass.... we're so cooked.

what's with the completely unneeded voice filters? It sounds like you're singing through a trumpet, badly at that. This genuinely does not sound like the TLT I know, overall disappointing, please keep your work to fan-songs, because while I agree with the sentiment of the album, political songs are CLEARLY not your cup of tea, maybe it's time to swap to coffee, decaf at that. Vocals are outright not there (please stop trying to ... read more

Riproducer - My Brain The Musical
65

This album for me has a lot of high highs and an equal amount of low lows that could've probably been touched up too, most of the tuning is fine and well executed but can become grating at times with the pitch RIP tends to use them in. The topics involved in most of the songs feel pretty on par with what a Gen Z would be concerned with; cancel culture, self identity, rage at the medical system, ect. A lot of emotion driven topics.

(my album purchased from amazon did not include Spoiler ... read more

Penelope Scott - Hazards
60

Hazards, while appearing derivative of Public Void, has a more chaotic feeling found in glitchpop/core type songs, except it doesn't really work as well here when she leans into slower songs, it's a simmering that doesn't appetize. most songs are on par with what I expect out of Penelope, yet I cannot deny the ultimately social media girl feel of some of the EPs worst offenders, self care feels like more of a vent than a song and isn't all that enjoyable to listen to.

I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME - GLOOM DIVISION
70

This album is honestly incredibly meddling in comparison to the likes of Razzmatazz and previous projects, the drums are noticeably simpler and less dramatic. The vocalist tends to overcompensate with highs to fill in the lacking space between. Otherwise some tracks are pretty catchy, if a little samey in the end of it all

Best Song: SIXFT

Something To Do - Music For Fine Dining
75

Ska-punk being one of my favourite genres, this is an overall enjoyable experience, despite some of the songs coming off quite samey at times, like how an ex/a hurting relationship tends to be a common thread in most if not all of the songs, furthest removed possibly being All of the Best.

MARINA - The Family Jewels
72

really beautifully composed tracks, complimented by Marina's vocals, sometimes I believe she overdoes it, even for emphasis it feels a tad off. I'm not a big fan of the use of reverb at times, some songs have a tendency to lay it on thick, as well as the intense instrumentals of some of the songs. It can be quite chaotic at times. For some reason the album I bought had Seventeen in place of Rootless, so I cannot accurately rate that particular track or consider it in my ratings.

AViVA - BROKEN HEARTS
74

My 3rd album from Aviva, although not quite my favourite, some of the tracks on this album have become frequents in my repertoire. I overall enjoy her spooky pop vibes, with more emphasis on relationship topics within the songs, using vocal pitch effects as is standard for her, of which the only song I don't like the use of is Nightmare, it ruins the song for me just a bit. Overall a good experience, if nothing necessarily new.

Sub Urban - Skinny Loser
95

Skinny loser has become my favorite song of 2024 quickly, listening to it the morning of release and having it appear on the top of my phone's auto-generated favorite's playlist within 3 days. I love how the instrumental blends into the vocals, and how SB uses his voice in the song, overall it generates a lot of excitement and I'm very happy to have you back after 2 years.

Something To Do - Here Comes The Panic
72

STD was my introduction to one of my personal favourite genres, and I'm glad that they're still around in the lord of our forsaken, 2024. The music in and of itself isn't all too dissimilar to their other projects, with only a handful not personally clicking with me, as I much prefer the dramatic and pump-up songs over the more peculiar or "silly" ones. I love the genre for the brass and STD doesn't fail to supply the goods, an average batch of songs that easily ... read more

MILLENNIUM PARADE - THE MILLENNIUM PARADE
70

Ethnic pop has never sounded so fluid, and dare I say, beautifully executed. I found the group late last year with Trepanation and quickly found myself in love with the group's unique sound. My only gripe with the album is the sheer count of interims between the masterpieces. The songs are woven together well and a good variety of primary singers mixes things up enough so there's never a dull moment.

Glass Animals - I Love You So F***ing Much
64

Glass Animals' "I Love You so F-ing much" starts off quite samey to what I'm used to hearing, but a few songs in and I'm comfortably taken in by the classic GA sound. Some experimentation would be nice, although I do enjoy whenever songs lean more into the gritty bass that they weave so well, as well as some of the vocalists high notes (while occasionally feeling forced)

Overall I had a fun experience.

Best song: Wonderful Nothing

Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)
35

Your bass privledges have been revoked, never use bass again, you seem to have completely forgot what mixing is and for this being a """retirement album""" it's incredibly boring when I can't hear half the words because it sounds like someone's taking a wet shit into the microphone every 2 seconds. On top of that, why do you have a need to put multiple syllable words in a single syllable spot? It's not working and only serves as a diservice to ... read more

Poor Man’s Poison - Providence
72

I've never been the biggest country fan, and so it's likely that Poor Man's Poison is the closest I'll willingly venture into the genre. This is why some songs may seem unreasonably low.

When they get it right, they absolutely get it right and it makes me feel righteous and somber, all the while expressing messages that strike close to home. Not bad for a decade old album.

AViVA - VOLUME II
80

Volume II has to be one of my favorite dark pop experiences to date, with the only true low point for me being the opening of Antihero (which sucks because that one part makes the otherwise great song very very much a skip on repeat listens). Aviva uses her voice well and diversely, and I look forward to an even more experimental project in the future.

Good Kid - Good Kid 4

[Immediately docking twenty points from the overall score for the heinous crime of releasing songs as singles before including them on an album. From everyone who purchases music to download; fuck you.] (74 ->54)

This is my 2nd experience with the band, and reading other reviews, I'm expecting to be tired of this experience by the mid point. For my first time hearing the band in depth, I quite enjoy their sound, but for the love of god please use more than just 3 instruments across ... read more

Good Kid - Summer
78

This song is my formal introduction to the group, as for this particular song, it feels rather at home with me, despite it's famished lyrics. I personally quite enjoy the vocalist's modulation and main guitar backing, they work very well in tandem. Will be rating the new EP directly afterwards.

Panic! at the Disco - A Fever You Can't Sweat Out
81

Seems like I've got a big case of The Bias™️, but I rather enjoy P!atD's A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, I've never been one to shy away from cringe and by lowercase g-o-d does this album wear that proudly on it's sleeve. Edge at its finest with its high and sickly sweet at it's worst. Once again I must compliment the way that the tracks weave into each other. A case of peak fiction as it were.

Best song: Build God, Then We'll Talk

Rare Americans - RA3: Jamesy Boy & The Screw Loose Zoo
70

I've been following the band since they put their video for cats dogs and rats up as a YouTube ad, that was the first ad that ever got me to sit all the way through it while being over 30 seconds. that said I have followed the band up until their fourth album, with this being their third.

It's about on par with their other works for the current time, with some definitive low notes in the middle-end

Overall when it works it works, when it doesn't, I'd rather hit skip.

On Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)
"I got airpods so, pretty good headphones, doesn't take away from his awful mixing. The last comment is strictly fact, it doesn't matter who he has a preference for, even mentioning it in the way he did is condescending at best and subconsciously transphobic at worst. Not wanting to fuck trans people doesn't make you a bad person, but it's something that you keep to yourself."
