I didn't expect for these vocals to grow on me to be so emotional. These amazing jazz-rock segments that crescendo incredibly well. Greep's yells out to the audience with these confusing lyrics of imagery that I honestly gave up to follow through on with how sporadic they feel with the instrumentation. Beautiful horns and piano with his vocals overtop that is much more tasteful compared to black midi's work. Consistent feel between each song that feels really refined in their ... read more
This dipped so bad with Known For It and I Want It I Need It. Good experimentation here though with one of their first releases. Much more aggressive and raw of their earlier days and it comes out well. Can feel thin like with Full Moon's drum only backing for the most part. I just can't do the dragged and slow paced energy of Known For It or I Want It I Need It. Other than that this was pretty good for a first EP.
Apologies for not listening to the instrumentals, I will get to those another day when I can handle something like this again.
I don't think I have felt this horrified, angry, and sad at a piece. Overlapping voices excusing the actions and results of genocidal choices under the validation of the Lord or excuses of past behaviors of who is "evil" and the main target of accusation. Hearing bombs and screams for uncomfortable lengths is terrifying. These large productions following ... read more
I am still unsure to write this review with personal connections to comatose or not. These terrifying and heartbreaking screams with noise elements that ring through you like shivers. Overlapping and repeated vocals that feel so abrupt and perfectly fit the subject of this project. Personal monologues over drones that instill fear and sorrow for this message placed into art. From peaceful tones or field recordings to the high pitch frequencies, this is incredibly done in it's use of audio. ... read more
Intrigued. Awesome energy with differences that kept me very focused. Couldn't read or interpret most of the lyrics but the story presentation and messaging was very interesting in it's presentation. Guitar solos and segments between vocal parts were very pleasing with the whole opera feel. Vocals felt very energetic from more emotional and pronounced parts like the iconic beginning of "Welcome to the Black Parade" to something more collectively well-made like the chorus of ... read more
Enjoyable? Somewhat easy to tune out with guitars not adding an incredible amount here. Some longer songs like "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" felt like they tried to be more than they could put out. Finer performances just nothing pokes out with choruses or verses to differentiate anything really major here. Not many favorites here for me, just an overall "okay" performance.
Good. Great vocal variety from softer whispers to incredibly high range with choruses or just general verses here. Some guitar aggression can feel same-y after a while of listening to this style of energy but it is still enjoyable. Great and catchy choruses that pull you in with some greatly implemented breaks in songs to bring back the energy pretty flawlessly. Some of the writing can feel awkward but it shouldn't be blamed for an earlier release in the career of MCR. I enjoyed what it ... read more
What the fuck. In my personal opinion I feel like this could be one of the strongest candidates of "art should comfort the disturbed and disturbed the comforted" in an album. These samples of guitars or saxophones that feel like bliss with noisy static piecing at different times between ears. Yells of pain mixed in with announcements of English speeches and Japanese voices. Near the end of this version silence feels deafening when only getting such small bits of music. Making that ... read more
Its Boards of Canada!!! I wasn't a huge fan of their music always but this was a bit higher than my expectations. More interesting music in the half with less voice sampling and more interesting ambience and electronic sounds here. Feels like a slightly upgraded Geogaddi with these more airy but still concise songs here. Ran for the appropriate amount of time a 70 minute LP should feel like. Even after a long hiatus their music stayed pretty consisted in it's presentation. Very nice ... read more
I am thoroughly confused. Confusing concepts on a first listen with ideas of suicide and past love/lust that is a lot to comprehend at first. Musical concepts can be interesting with soft guitar solely playing in "Fast Car" or usage of synths in "Apistat Commander" or "Ian Curtis Wishlist." I think there is nuance to these concepts I haven't fully understood but they do move me in their presentation. I teared up a bit through "Apistat Commander" with ... read more
I think this was okay. I wasn't a fan of Danny Brown's voice here for the most part, and production left me wanting more with beats and sample chops here too. I think the lyricism was strong with callbacks to cocaine or rain/water, and they added up really well with this good rhyme scheme going on in verses. Some hooks and choruses felt fine but can be awkward with the break it places with the instrumental already occurring. Rap flow was pretty consistent on it's presentation and ... read more
I feel bold and im giving this a 9/10. Amazing stuff here front to back. A bold entrance with the intro track into loud and amazing noise rock with Ibitsu and Furi. Then this beautiful guitar melody and solo beams throughout Naki Kyoku and does incredible for the 12 minute runtime of this song. Some more great energy with Ano Onna No Onryou with the catchy hook and good guitar distortions. Fun little fadeout too. Title track brings back this amazing distorted guitar with fun riffs playing for a ... read more
The title didn't lie. Beefy guitar tones that ring out really clearly here with the screaming vocals on top. Gritty drones that are tastefully done over longer song lengths like in the entirety of "Vomitself." Incredible well done breaks with softer moments and interesting guitar riffs too. Can drag on for a bit but that was just my personal taste getting impatient with some of the drone segments.
I should really get into more vaporwave. Fun vibes with synths and bass tones that add really nicely, especially in transitions. Small vocal portions that are actually really nice touches on top of the built vibe here. Not something that will poke out to you to be amazing in every detail, but gives an amazing listen when experiencing it. Fun melodies in "Warmpop" to fun drum breaks in "Flouder 202" that makes this album a really fun listen.
Not a huge fan of the distorted and loud guitar but as a whole this was really nice. Fun progressions with vocals and more softer tones coming in with songs like "rummy night" which were really nice to hear. Some songs like "akiramujina" did overstay their welcome but I think they all added together just fine in this EP. Pleasing vocals with fun guitar melodies that add with each other. Fun vibe, especially with cool elements like the moving vocals between each speaker.
Boring. I already don't enjoy JPEGMAFIA's style of music and overlapping it with this annoying riddim/brostep production genuinely just throws anything I enjoyed into the trash. Mentioning Ye in such weird ways with how reversed hes been with his opinions. Boring beats even when he's not using these stupid EDM productions. Boring samples and features that don't really do much. Short song lengths but it benefited with how awful it felt having to sit through so much of these ... read more
awesomeawesomeawesome. Love the high energy in these vocals and guitars. Filled with constant mixing of feels with this pop punk or softer acoustic parts like in "Madelyn" that make this album feel very full. I zone out during some of these songs but the energy is still really well made and keeps itself going by the next song really well. Love the call-backs in "I Just Want To Sell Out My Funeral" with the past songs on this album all overlapping and building up. Really well ... read more
I feel so emotionally distraught. These crushing lyrics with these guitars playing through like I am experiencing the roughest point of my life in the middle of a party. Surrounded by what I see as joy that I could never experience as I cry out into the void. Learning that David Berman passed a month after this release makes all of this more ruining. Crushing songs like "Nights That Won't Happen" and "Maybe I'm the Only One for Me" are so heartbreaking. Definitely ... read more
Man. Fuck you. At first the lyricism felt confusing with these long drones of guitars and screaming vocals, but it finally got to me in the last two songs. A brutal portrayal of the human mind with these long breaks of guitars humming in your ears throughout. Loud blastbeats as this vocalist screams of personal denial even in their outlook of their own life. Existing with support and still feeling like an empty husk of an individual. It is a brutal listen with how heavy some of these ... read more
I really like Soul music actually. Really addicting horns and instrumentals with this belting voice that is beautifully performed. Sadly a bit short but it is still great as an album. Surprised at how underrated this is with how few have listened to this album. Great work and definitely earcandy for a 35 minute album.
