when it works it really works, I consider lullaby, lovesong and fascination street for example to be perfect songs, but, when you play the same for a long time, you gotta make it super interesting. using lullaby as an example, the song grows and grows adding new synths, voices guitars and by the end you can just fall and listen to the amazing soundscape they created, I feel most songs here don't get there and fall more on the "boring" side. I can vibe HARD to every song on this, they experiment with japanese instruments, spanish guitar and of course a lot of 80´s amazyng synths, the singing is the best of any the cure album and the lyrics are close behind. it's so full of catchy and memorable melodies and rythms and it keeps it enjoyable for the full 37 minutes
I feel mixed here, some of this song like careful or ignorant or brick by boring brick are amazing but on the other side the only exception, playing god or looking up come to short, and I'm not a big fan of the pop in my "pop punk" being so overpowering, but anyways it was experimentation that would help the band later on.
