Already was enthralled by the cover art, but this is a solid album. This is like that era where Metalcore bands where throwing EDM stuff un-ironically but taken to 100 while depressed.
"...In purgatory" made me feel like I was being assaulted. Also "still" sounds like a song straight out of the Tsukihime soundtrack.
Good stuff.
One of the things that made me love Turnstile was Ebert's guitar work and unfortunately, since he is gone in this project you can DEFINITELY notice it... riffs just aren't hitting that much or just straight up boring.
Still an enjoyable album tho. The dream pop experimentation was already present in Glow On and I think it still is one of their strengths.
really nice followup to their first project. Can we talk about Marisa's vocal performance though?? WOW
Other than the self-titled track which makes the pace of the album a bit more clunky, it's pretty much a perfect record.
Some of the most beautiful vocal melodies you'll hear if your life are in this album.
A perfect album front to back. An absolute masterclass on lead guitar playing, and their best work.
Wow.
Such a huge step-up in songwriting from their previous records. Much more and dynamic and interesting, even Max tries to reach higher in his voice range to not sound so monotone. Slower and groovier riffs, much better mixing, lower guitar tuning, dope instrumentals, more brazilian influenced drumming, all contributing to a much more enjoyable and fun listen.
Definitely their best album. Second goes to Beneath the Remains IMO.
People say this band doesn't' have an original sound due to their influences and pretty much trying to sound like an 80's metal band to a fault, and while that may be true to some extent that doesn't stop this album from being well executed.
The most remarkable thing is the guitar work. Great solos, sick fast riffs, classic guitar tones, it's all really good stuff. Vocals are also a major part of this being a very enjoyable listen. Even while trying to go for this ... read more
The riffs, songwriting, the GUITAR TONE (FAT), the vocals. Everything is top notch in this record
Not getting a higher score because honestly the last track is kinda whatever
Easily top 3 best alt-rock albums of the 2000's and I feel it goes underappreciated
Not as good as their first album but pretty much a sequel since most of the same elements are found here.
