Pinned Review

Duster - Stratosphere

moody, melancholic, depressing, lonely, hopeful?

A rollercoaster of emotion despite never moving fast at all. It takes you on a journey across the globe, around the solar system and back home again, it's a rainy August day, it's a shuttle gliding silently through the nothing. I really can't describe this record well enough tbh, at least not how it makes me feel, I'm still not sure, despite the countless listens. (I literally listened to it almost every day for a month on my ... read more

Saw someone describe this as music to do heroin to and I'm really not gonna be able to top that.

Getting into trip hop lately and now I'm wondering why it took me so long. The atmosphere on this album is second to none, the whole thing is oppressively moody, from the deep, droning bass to the ethereal vocal performances (everyone say thank you, Elizabeth Fraser).

I have never really been into synthpop/electropop and figured the best way to try and change that was to give one of the more popular and acclaimed works (at least on this website) a try, but all I really did was confirm my feelings. I really wanted to like this, its obvious that so much love and care was put into making this, the soundscape is amazing, especially when you consider it came out over 20 years ago.

I just ... read more

First ever review is gonna be on one of my favourite dreampop projects ever, one of the albums that got me into the genre in the first place!

This thing is loud, dreamy and full of distortion, the production is overblown and overwhelming from start to end which contrasts really nicely with the soft, graceful vocal performances. The sound of the record is incredibly varies but always has a tropical spin on it, especially on the track 'Birth of the Flower'

On my first go the ... read more
