As a math rock/midwest emo fan, I knew I would love the instrumentals of this album, and I sure did. The twinkly FACGCE riffs never fail to make me smile. That being said the lyrics are incredibly emotional and would probably hit me as hard as a truck going 100mph if I wasn't in a healthy loving relationship at the time of listening.
I can't lie I struggle with understanding lyrics as it is, and Bjork certainly does not help with this. However it is a really fascinating electronic album that had me entranced during its entire runtime.
This album has a special place in my heart. It came out when I was around 13, listened to it non stop and it was a huge part of my early teenage years. I saw the band live during this era as well which adds to that. Coming back to it as an adult and music snob just made me appreciate it even more. One of very few albums I would call perfect. It's weird as fuck, and it took a whole 2 years of having this album in rotation to realise its true greatness. Genuinely words cannot describe how much I love this album. How the fuck can an album have one of the freakiest and almost scary sounding tracks I've ever heard as well as one of the most beautiful ballads to ever grace my ears. God I miss this band.
