This reissue doesn't just add 'Doves', although that is the obvious highlight. Unfortunately, it also deletes two guest verses, both from Junglepussy. Clearly, some behind-the-scenes bullshit went down, and I'm starting to wonder if maybe Armand Hammer are the issue with both Junglepussy and Peggy having some disputes with their music; but we know so little, so I can't really care. I went to one of woods' shows and at the signing table, one guy had a bunch of vinyl for him to sign. As he was signing he asks him what his favorite of them are. And the answer was Furtive Movements. woods' was genuinely surprised, I assume because it's such an unpopular opinion. A great mixtape, one that people are really ignoring on this site. It comes across as a more approachable entry point for the duo, with its counterpart Race Music being the more intellectually dense counterpart. Half Measures sees them tackle more straightforward subject matter but without losing any of the edge or grit that you want from them. It still is able to pack a major punch even with it feeling like a loose compilation at times.
Sharpens up everything that made her debut weak, which was mainly on the production side. When the Pawn... feels so much more alive and energetic than its predecessor and gives Apple's poetry a sharper punch to it. This is where she really got into her stride and never let down. Despite being a lyrically moving album, Tidal really suffers from a musical standpoint. Its a very concentrated and focused 50 minutes, but her adhering to this one sound so strictly makes the tracklist feel awfully one-note. Every now and then, the album hits you with a powerful moment but they're only occasional.
