This album is very difficult for me to rate. There are many songs I don’t really care about, but it’s one of those records in which the ugliness contributes to the beauty of it.
This album sounds so cool that I really would like to rate it higher. But it is a lengthy one, and I’m not sure how it’s supposed to justify its length.
A lot of songs are similar to each other, too slow, or simply not to my taste, while many others are interesting but not enough to keep me from switching the music midway through the record.
There is so much potential, but the final result isn’t compelling enough for me.
I hold this record in pretty high regard compared to many others. It immediately struck me with its gloomy and angsty vibes, and I especially love the first half. I don’t think that there is a bad song on it; even the ones that are not particularly great end up working really well in the context of the album. It certainly has a personality of its own.
I also want to advise everyone to check out the extended edition, which contains beautiful covers and an extra, very strong track called ... read more
The Mountain is undeniably an interesting record, and I think the mere fact that it's so intriguing leads to far too many positive reviews, causing people to end up overrating it a bit.
I actually enjoy the first half of the record; I loved the intro and the weird twists that give way to more standard, yet very catchy songs like The Happy Dictator. However, the second half starts to feel like it drags a little too much, with songs I genuinely didn't like (I must admit that rap just ... read more
As a sucker for grunge, I really get where the FF are going with this one. Every single song has something beautiful to it, even though I’m not in love with all of them.
The guitar riffs are mostly very cool, I love the one in Amen, Caveman, but then it transitions into a power rock chorus which is not really my jam. Other songs, like If You Only Knew and Unconditional are undeniably good, but certainly they resemble other FF tracks.
However, when you get to songs like Window - one of ... read more
When I listened to it on spotify I had the feeling that something key was missing. Make sure to listen to every single track on it, including the crazy-sounding Love Song (which I think offers a little bit of movement to the EP)!
This is an album that never fails to get me excited. Not everyone is going to appreciate the weird tracks sprinkled here and there, but to me, that’s a strength. On this album, Pearl Jam take risks, and I not only respect that choice, I thoroughly enjoy it. I think it’s what makes it special. I can’t help but smile when 'Bugs' and 'Aye Davanita' come around. There are no skips among the 'standard' tracks, and the more experimental ones contribute ... read more
This is almost a masterpiece. The only reason it doesn’t reach a higher score is that the lighter, catchy, and still pretty good songs simply don't reach the heights of the masterful ones! As much as I enjoy tracks like 'Back and Forth' and 'A Matter of Time,' they just can’t compare to the first five tracks. Still a gorgeous album that deserves all the hype and more.
