This album feels like a blockbuster movie, and I mean that in a good way. It takes trap to it's grandest extent, practically shoving it into the mainstream whether people like it or not. Looking back on this album, it was a huge deal for the world of rap at the time, and definingly pushed the genre in the right direction, like Rodeo did. It's not without it's weak points, but this album is without a doubt, a great project.
Look, I get the point of the album. And I appreciate the experimentation. That being said, this album is BORING. There's not the careful attention to production throughout we see in Blonde, it feels like outtakes, and honestly, that's what it was. Just a way out of Def Jam. I didn't expect much but this really dipped below my expectations. This doesn't have much value at all in terms of lyricism. At least Dream threw some effort in there, and I'll give him a pity point for that. 1/10
Kendricks worst album. But that doesn't make it a bad album. It's just not strong all the way through. And that's okay, because the messaging is consistent, the high points are phenomenal, and at the end of the day, it's still a solid project. It didn't live up to my expectations, but I still loved it. 8/10
What can I say that hasn't been said already. Well here's one thing. It's not as good as people say it is. Kendrick isn't some savior here. However this album is still breathtaking. And has so little wrong with it. I won't beat a dead horse praising it, this albums is just phenomenal and a classic. 9.5/10
