When Midnights came out, I was super disappointed. When it won Album of the Year over SOS, GUTS, and The Record, I was almost livid. When Taylor announced a new album, I was shocked. I expected her to focus on the Eras Tour and re-recording Reputation and Taylor Swift. I hoped her new album would be great, considering her tumultuous personal life, which usually fuels her songwriting.

the vault tracks fell pretty flat to me. most of the excitement i felt listening to them was due to the shock value in the lyrics; the insane Taylor Swift History™ references like "blue dress on a boat" (my jaw dropped). The actual music and production felt so incredibly MIDNIGHTS to me. The biggest issue I have with this album is how much of a disappointment it was. There was no clear marketing on this album. No one was sure what genre it would be, there were no lead singles to get an idea of the sound.
