Jim Legxacy - black british music (2025)

"We've been making asses shake since the Windrush."

Drawing from a diverse range of sounds, from electronic to classic R&B and the current UK Hip Hop scene, black british music creates electric moments, with no song that I couldn't dance to.

Jim Legxacy's strongest trait is how he can make every song sound so fun, regardless of the type of vibe he is trying to bring. I find that his best tracks are when he allows himself to dip into some experimentation and mix a ... read more

ear - The Most Dear and the Future

Amazing soundscape that really puts you into the moment of each song. While nothing incredible or genius, it's certainly unique, providing an atmosphere I haven't quite gotten from an album in some time. I would love to see more from ear, as I think the only thing holding this project back is the very short length.

I think if ear continues to improve on this formula, we are looking at something very special in the making.

Geese - Getting Killed

I love love love this record, I really do, but it falls a little flat for me.

Getting Killed is truly a masterclass in how to bring the sounds of art rock and indie rock together in a lovely way. Getting Killed is the epitome of every online musichead's favorite indie rock album they're going to harass you to listen to. In a good way, of course.

While they wear their influences on their sleeves, I can never truly pitch it to you in one way or another. It is truly unique; the sounds ... read more

Danny Brown - Stardust

Yeah, yeah, he has transgenders on the album WE GET IT ALREADY!!!!!

In all seriousness, this is a really fun take from Danny. It feels like going back to some of his older sounds in some regard, and definitely a fresh take coming off of Quaranta. While I think I will be coming back to this album more often than Quaranta, I find that lyrically he is going over similar topics and ideas that we already got before, with some new poetics, but generally nothing new from Danny, which I always found ... read more

Sick as fuck songs back to back. One of my favorite screamo projects to come back to, consistent and flawless. It's a project so full of soul and passion, shoutout ainwe.

Ed Sheeran - Play
27

An incredibly uninspired and boring project. Full of bland, forced 'feel good' overproductions and some of the worst and most basic instrumentals, which is obviously going to be anticipated. Ed Sheeran has this habit of not ever changing his range. Ever single fucking song he has the exact same notes and he's running out of ways to rearrange them into flattering flows. His voice is GRATING after the 3rd song. He INSISTS on choosing the strangest vocal runs. Sheeran also opens ... read more

Earl Sweatshirt - Live Laugh Love

Something short and sweet from the goat, but its more bittersweet. We get a lot out of Earl, both in this album and the rollout for it. A lot of introspection and thinking on his career so far and his future. Nothing out of the ordinary for Earl, but this feels different, it feels a bit aged. Stylistically, its a little more subdued, a little more soothing, but it keeps that Earl edge and I feel that sums up where he is at this point in his life. He's ready to close the chapter on his ... read more

Maruja - Pain to Power

This one may take a bit to settle in my system and truly digest as a whole; as such, my rating may fluctuate rapidly. This is a truly powerful record. A call to action, a hope for a better tomorrow, and consultation from one human to another, it came to me at a particularly unfortunate time. This blends those hard post-punk/punk elements and jazz in a breakneck, always-on-the-move pacing that truly keeps you engaged. I think the middle section, Break The Tension and Trenches in particular, ... read more

Frost Children - SISTER

A bit inconsistent but thoroughly enjoyable. A 2000's to early 2010's electropop nostalgia trip with that punchy, maximalist fun that Frost Children are known for. It's a very good time and will likely be in rotation for awhile. 2025 has been a really good year for fun music.

Joey Valence & Brae - HYPERYOUTH

This is what Don't Tap The Glass should've been!!! This is an absolute banger high-energy album the entire way through. Haters will say it's corny, but it's some of the most fun I've had listening to an album in a while. So glad I defended them when Punk Tactics came out.

key vs. locket - i felt like a sketch

Heartfelt and raw. It's the typical stuff you're going to expect going into it. While I don't think this project is doing anything innovative, I don't think it wants to or has to. Everything about it is compelling, from the instrumentation to the lyrics, which always felt like it was pulling me back into the project. There is never a truly boring moment. If this type of sound isn't your thing, you probably won't enjoy it. It's a little repetitive. However, if ... read more

Thanks for everything. Everytime I come back to you I learn something new, not only musically, but emotionally. I'm not some embarrassing painting.

Tyler, The Creator - DON'T TAP THE GLASS

It's pretty good. I think the album rollout is kind of perfect for this album. It's simple and gets right to the point. I feel the emphasis on dance and groove pulls through, and it's a very fun listen from beginning to end. Instead of creating something new or completely unheard of, he instead focuses more on creating an environment, something I feel has been a bit lacking as of recent.

EDIT: With time, this project has gotten a lot worse in my eyes. I feel like Tyler kind of ... read more

The Callous Daoboys - I Don't Want to See You in Heaven
80

A post-ironic tug-of-war between being too serious and just having fun. This record starts and will continue to remind you of the insecurities and "failures" in both musical career and personal life. This is a surprisingly energetic album that allows itself to tap into sounds of jazz when it wants to, but still comfortably floating back into the mathcore, metalcore sounds we are used to. The same can be said for the lyricism through the album. There is an effortless flow between ... read more

MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS - ワールドイズユアーズ [World Is Yours]

Listened to this a lot in high school. An album that made me come back to rock and realize how much I love this sound. Take the time to listen to a truly enjoyable record from front to back if you can.

Sabrina Carpenter - Short n' Sweet
65

Very fun and bright, a more enjoyable pop record than I've seen out of her peers. While I think the lyricism can sometimes be a bit corny, it is nothing I didn't expect from the record. There are still some highlights I find myself coming back to for their bright and unique sound, there are those, like Lie to Girls, that decide to change the production style, which comes to the detriment of the song and kind of breaks the overall flow and sound of the album. Otherwise, it is exactly ... read more

Chief Keef - Finally Rich

Legendary shit. We (yes we) love Chief Sosa.

acloudyskye - This Won't Be The Last Time

spiraling, twisting, hopeful, crushing. This album feels so emotion-fueled. Every song, every second, and minute felt like another step in a larger journey, and I was a part of a ride I never knew I needed. This piece is as moving as it is inspired and genuinely enjoyable from front to back. This is indie art at its finest. Storytelling is everything, and this is everything storytelling is.

Viagra Boys - viagr aboys

Its a hard album to hate. A genuinely solid work front to back that has something to say without taking themselves too seriously. It's a great record that makes me realize I've been sleeping for a bit now.

Jane Remover - Revengeseekerz

"bitches like me get to be happy"
"Jesus never had it with a freak bitch"
could you maybe pass a freak bitch like me some tickets so I can be happy?

Jane's back and she's pissed. She's evolved her sound greatly and making some absolute bangers while still taking the time to speak her truth and talk her shit. My goat forevermore.

I love you Jane but in a really introspective nonchalant type of way fr
