Still the most nihilistic, hard-hitting series of songs about murder ever made... and it sounds great? Listened to this a lot more as an angsty teen, but coming back to some classics as of late, and this album still stuns in its cruelty and audacity delivered with such sonic precision.
I challenge you to listen to the track "White Light Killer" and tell me it is not a masterpiece!
year-end catch-up, but it was so nice I had to listen to it twice. A nice blend of industrial and more pop-driven electronic dance tracks to get the body moving. I will have to come back to this more in the new year.
Year-end catch-ups, single listen - Some really cool soundscapes crafted here with a punk edge, but it needs either more polish or more deconstruction. The place it is, as it is, neat, but I don't see myself coming back to this album.
Ian Svenonius's and his various projects may be repetitive in sound and themes, but they never disappoint. This album oozes cool on every track and is the perfect mood lifter.
Year-end round-up, single listen. At points this is a pretty awesome deconstruction of dance music, and it certainly has great moments of harsh brutality in lyrics and sound, but I find it all rather exhausting after listening to the album front to back with no one track really capturing my attention in the way I like from this kind of sound. Definitely give this one a listen though, I am okay saying it is just not for me.
A pleasant surprise to get both a Headcoats and Headcoatees album in 2025. I have always favored the latter of the two projects. Nothing new here, the band has always been the same thing ad nauseam, but that is what I love about it, great garage rock that embodies good times with good people. Have some drinks and sing along.
Year-end catch-up single listen: a solid album but nothing that really resonates with me, unlikely to ever revisit.
2025 catch-up, single listen. I have not thought of the band 'Lesbians on Ecstasy' for some time, but 'Slash Need' channels that same dark electronic dance vibe with erotic and angry undertones (depending on the song). This connection I made was both nice, but it also makes me hesitant.
The album certainly had me bopping my head and moving while I worked, and if I ever get a chance to see them live, I am going to jump on it. Still, afraid it will fall into more of a ... read more
2025 catch-up single listen. An eclectic mix of sounds, but none that really push the boundaries of any specific genre, the vocals can be gartin under certain styles, 'Life Styles' almost had me skipping this one. Yet, there are some legit great tracks here, adore 'Playing Classics'. I will likely come back to this band in the new year and see how the work sits with me after a deeper dive.
2025 year-end catch-up, single listen. A charming pop album, really uplifting. For me, it did not leave much of an impression on a single listen, though it was not much my vibe. Still, would call this a great album and am forwarding it to a few people I think would vibe with it. If you like your pop music like a warm hug, give this one a go.
A new Siriusmo album never blows me away, but I am never disappointed either. One of the most consistent electronic musicians, a fun listen, but unlikely to make its way into my rotation, unless I purposely want the fun vibes the album delivers, which still happens on occasion for this old man.
A surprise return album, and it certainly taps into the nostalgia of my teenage years. Yet, it is no longer for me. I don't think this is a bad album, though, for fans of LPD.
I would argue now is the time for poetry, if anything. I adore The Saxaphones, but this album was just tonally dull and lacked the romantic charm of previous releases, and feels obnoxiously preachy. I have to give it a few more listens, but after two back-to-back, nothing catches my attention. I may revisit my score afterward, but my instant reaction is that this is their weakest album to date.
There is a certain confidence in the delivery of the vocals that feels oddly nostalgic to the younger goth in me. At the same time, not by thing anymore.
A few decent songs, a gem despite my lower rating here.
