MF Tomlinson - Die To Wake Up From a Dream
67

a lil Neil Hannon, a lil Matt Maltese, a lil Phil Kakulas

Arcesia - Reachin’
80

a little painful but that's good

Lily Allen - West End Girl
60

charming on the first listen but doesn't survive a second, the definition of a novelty

Leonard Cohen - Thanks for the Dance
73

actually very moving. I don't know if that's a top-down thing, just being glad to hear him again at all.

Tame Impala - Deadbeat
60

a study in something but I don't know what. Echoes of Shortenin Bread.

Connie Converse - How Sad, How Lovely
88

completely unaged. Not folksy despite the "folk" genre assignment. Was she the first of this kind? Doing it 10 years before Dylan or whoever, before R Stevie Moore was born. With Tom Lehrer, she shows us something of what the 50s were actually like underneath the censorship and self-repression.

Sachiko M, Toshimaru Nakamura & Otomo Yoshihide - Good Morning Good Night
35

i actually believe that it rewards devotion and repeated immersion, but so does everything

FEX - Skyscraper
70

Unreissue, c.1985

Billie The Vision & The Dancers - I Was So Unpopular in School and Now They're Giving Me This Beautiful Bicycle
94

The first pop band I ever liked. In retrospect this is because they are lyrically a sort of punk band. Actual punk pop.

Bjørn Torske - Kokning
72

This word entered my personal lexicon for mysterious reasons and now me and my gf call cooking "koknings"

A.R. Kane - 69
65

Add 20 points for historical influence if you're into that kind of thing

Igorrr - AMEN
75

Very fun. All over the place, with Dick Dale tone and dubstep drums and whatnot

Cardiacs - LSD
75

Yeah prog-punk. Hard to catch the lyrics, which is part of the effect but also a shame

The Hotelier - Home, Like Noplace Is There
71

i forget which wave we're on. this is a big bag of slightly involuted conventions (e.g. the unison backing vocals screaming but really low in the mix, the late Against Me! bass solos) but it's so well-executed and unsickly that you don't mind.

Dead Pioneers - PO$T AMERICAN
50

actually provocative and the backing band is great but the feints are just too clumsy

Cö shu Nie - PURE
50

nostalgic look at back when idols weren't that good-looking or talented or well-produced

Nine Inch Nails - TRON: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
61

He's been reselling the same album 20 times in the last 20 years. It's a good album

Heartworms - Glutton for Punishment
72

Expanded version ("Poetry Edition") is real good

Rilo Kiley - That's How We Choose to Remember It
75
