if good kid, m.A.A.d city was a representation of kendrick's life growing up in compton, then GNX is showing us the world's perspective on the west coast at that time. i really like this album, and i think it shows off how much kendrick can say so much while doing so little.
fav songs:
luther, hey now, reincarnated, gnx, gloria
first listen and i think i may just be missing what makes this album so good..
update: yeah idk its just not workin for me. i like the production but everything else is pretttty boooringggggg...i think happier than ever was probably 2x better and i think this is getting overrated.
holy moly this album has me tearing up im not gonna hold the length against it because what is packed into the short 30 minute runtime is awe inspiringly beautiful and full of love
god this whole album goes hard as fuck start to finish.. genuinely one of the most quotable albums oat !!
a personal favorite and one that really fucked me up when i was finding myself through my mania. lots of flaws but im in too deep to see them as anything but purposeful.
ahead and behind the times. a record that will age like fine wine and will doubtlessly cause a wave of half assed copy cats that will only serve to make the album look even better.
scored after first listen, probably will go up/down with further listening.
I listened to this after waking up at like 12 so I think I was maybe a bit cranky. bumped up the rating a bit after relistens.
heavy yeezus influences, great production from some insanely impressive producers and pretty decent features. maybe my expectations were too high or maybe it just needs to grow on me but man some of these songs were either just boring as fuck or kinda ass.
here are my notes through the whole album if you have any interest!
