MIKE - Pinball II

There's an element of electricity in how MIKE utilizes subdued, repetitive rhyme schemes throughout this album. Everything about this album this album feels so dreamy, I sometimes forget it's all real and not a vivid hallucination onset by dehydration and sleep deprivation (but like, in a fun way, not in a miserable one). It's an album that can serve as both easy listening and as the backdrop for a more engaged, deep listening session. And yet with all of these positives it still ... read more

Making something cinematic doesn't make it good. "Deep themes" can only carry an album so far when it does little to separate itself from it's contemporaries or inspirations, I have no reason to return to this album over others that do similar things in terms of production and writing. This is no to say that it's bad, as I simply think that it's so boring I don't see any proper appeal outside of the appeal of it as a "breakout" album.

How he went from such an electric and monumental album like A Great Chaos to this boring, low-effort edgelord nonsense is bewildering. This album is bad to the point that I'm reevaluating whether or not I even liked his previous work. If you told me this was AI generated I would believe you. Nothing about this album is interesting or notable outside of the drop in quality from his last work. So unbelievably boring.

Westside Gunn - HEELS HAVE EYES 2

Easily Westside Gunn's best project in nearly half a decade, but it's unfortunately hindered from how oversaturated his sound has become as of recent. The sound of this album is much mellower than some of his last couple projects and that benefits it greatly in my opinion. Here's to hoping this kick starts another Griselda golden era.

Enjoyable little 4-pack of tracks. I absolutely loved Behold and it's energy. Animals is also a highlight, I know many of the bars on Eminem's part aren't exactly popular, I feel like it fits the speed and aggression of the track even if some of the bars could've been toned down. Lisa is also fairly decent, I like it's vibe and 6LACK is good as always, but it is a fair bit forgettable. The only real lowlight to me is Knew Better, it's extremely boring and Lil ... read more
