There's an element of electricity in how MIKE utilizes subdued, repetitive rhyme schemes throughout this album. Everything about this album this album feels so dreamy, I sometimes forget it's all real and not a vivid hallucination onset by dehydration and sleep deprivation (but like, in a fun way, not in a miserable one). It's an album that can serve as both easy listening and as the backdrop for a more engaged, deep listening session. And yet with all of these positives it still ... read more
Making something cinematic doesn't make it good. "Deep themes" can only carry an album so far when it does little to separate itself from it's contemporaries or inspirations, I have no reason to return to this album over others that do similar things in terms of production and writing. This is no to say that it's bad, as I simply think that it's so boring I don't see any proper appeal outside of the appeal of it as a "breakout" album.
How he went from such an electric and monumental album like A Great Chaos to this boring, low-effort edgelord nonsense is bewildering. This album is bad to the point that I'm reevaluating whether or not I even liked his previous work. If you told me this was AI generated I would believe you. Nothing about this album is interesting or notable outside of the drop in quality from his last work. So unbelievably boring.
Easily Westside Gunn's best project in nearly half a decade, but it's unfortunately hindered from how oversaturated his sound has become as of recent. The sound of this album is much mellower than some of his last couple projects and that benefits it greatly in my opinion. Here's to hoping this kick starts another Griselda golden era.
Enjoyable little 4-pack of tracks. I absolutely loved Behold and it's energy. Animals is also a highlight, I know many of the bars on Eminem's part aren't exactly popular, I feel like it fits the speed and aggression of the track even if some of the bars could've been toned down. Lisa is also fairly decent, I like it's vibe and 6LACK is good as always, but it is a fair bit forgettable. The only real lowlight to me is Knew Better, it's extremely boring and Lil ... read more
Uninspired and boring single paired with shitty clipart (and maybe AI????) visuals. Was there literally any budget for this track? Or was all of it poured into making this track as forgettable as possible?
So unbearably boring and unoriginal. Even detached from the dogshit and racist Lil Darkie brand, this would be a boring and non-notable record, and it being attached to that brand only makes it worse.
This is a very cool albeit brief electronic project featuring the occasional Jpegmafia vocals. I think if you go into this acknowledging Flume did a bulk of the work on the project, you’ll likely get more enjoyment from it than the dopamine-fiend Jpegmafia fans that will inevitably be disappointed by something that isn’t as aggressive as his last album. Or maybe you just hate fun. This EP is fun. And you guys seem to hate fun.
Stronger than the last single for sure, but I'm struggling to find a through line with it outside of the baseline aesthetics. I fear this album might be steering too hard into aesthetics as a unifying factor for the tracks, although whether or not that's true will have to be seen for the album. Overall I like it a lot though!
Albeit a bit sparse in true "wow" moments, that parts that hit really do hit, and the quieter, dragged out parts of the album ultimately allow for the more energetic and chaotic portions of the album to be so much more impactful. Although much of the album does not do a ton to justify it's length, it still manages to captivate me for it's whole runtime, even throughout the full 47:16 track on the album. I also find that it takes many foundational elements of Chopped and ... read more
A strong mix of sounds and styles, but I find some of the lyric delivery is a bit weaker than it could be, especially the rapped portion which sticks out as by far the weakest portion of the song
In my honest opinion, this album solidifies Saba not only as a generational talent, but also as someone up there with the all time greats of hip-hop.
Although my opinion is subject to change due to recency, this may very well be one of the best albums I've ever heard. Tightly produced with extremely well thought out mixing, with some of the drums being so textured you legit forget they're playing from your speakers. Writing is strong as ever for Saba, with all of the tracks on this ... read more
Production is strong but can often blend together a bit too much between tracks. Mixing is awful for most of the features, especially that Aesop Rock verse (genuinely what the fuck happened there?), but the beats and Daveed Diggs himself are all well mixed. Lyrics are witty and convey their meaning well throughout the record, but they felt less impactful than the lyrics from their last two projects
Aged extremely well. Outside of like 2 or 3 tracks it still holds up well, and is much better than it's initial perception would suggest. I'd seriously suggest giving it a serious re-evaluation
This album was a journey omg. I don't see people who don't already like Carti/Opium/Rage music in general liking anything off of this album except maybe GOOD CREDIT or RATHER LIE but as a fan, almost every track hit. I love how blown out and loud the bass is on every song, it creates cohesion even amongst tracks with completely different tones.
The biggest disappointment has got to be the fact that several songs are clearly unfinished, namely MUNYUN and TWIN TRIM. To wait 4 years for ... read more
One of his weakest albums to date. Still, it would be most rappers best. There’s a lot of great tracks here, but I can’t help but feel like it’s missing something. It feels like an extended version of one of Kendrick’s “heart” tracks, which I can only hope is what this project is meant to be.
Don’t know why it took me so long to hear this album, every aspect of it is right up my alley. I adore the way it bounces from grimy trap to jazzy neo-soul to cloud rap, all while still feeling like an extremely cohesive piece of work. Pink Siifu is such a captivating character and I feel as if this album does a good job conveying this, between his lyricism, production choice, vocal inflections, cover art, and even the usage of punctuation in the album title. All of these aspects truly ... read more
I can already tell this song is gonna be so overplayed but I don’t care I love it so much
Very fun, but I’m not sure everything that they tried on here works. It’s super short so it’s definitely worth a listen though.
This album serves as a reminder that rapping is hard and even most “mid” rappers are leagues better than the average person could ever hope to be. While the production is stellar (as always with The Alchemist), his lack of lyrical skill sticks out like a sore thumb for most of this record. With the exception of Seasons Change, most of his verses feel directionless and repetitive. Even other mediocre rappers he’s worked with (like Larry June and Drake) still manage to keep up ... read more
