yeah it's all over the place and you would have to be insane to just sit down and casually listen to most of these tracks, but that's kind of his thing, and more importantly it's SO FUN and the idea that Jacob's music is in any way soulless is just ridiculous. djesse is clearly a labor of love, as are all his other albums. sometimes love is about having fun and concocting a very large explosion of a million different things. anyway they could never make me hate you jacob!!!
revisited this now that my recency bias is gone, and i think this is my favorite mitski record:) i struggle with my love is mine all mine - it's a nice song but it has also been stuffed down my throat, which just tells me i need to start going offline, because it's a shame virality would "ruin" a song for me. but it's fine, i would've been really upset if it had been the deal that went viral, but my love mine all mine wasn't one of my favorites anyway lol

aoty grammy win makes sense from an industry perspective, but with peace and love, i disagree. i just don't think it's a good album. like it started fine with lavender haze and then went downhill from there for me. the lyricism was so strange, flunctuating between obnoxious navel-gazing therapist language (did you hear my covert narcissism I disguise as altruism) to awkward millennial attempts to sound hip (me and karma vibe like that). the production was strange.
i think maybe i would've had ... read more
relistened to this for the first time since like 2017 and i didn't expect to like it because I couldn't even sit through the first song in portals but nothing could've prepared me for HOW horribly it has aged. fucking dogshit. every song is the exact same, not to mention the whole baby aesthetic is creepy and insensitive and just SO WEIRD. impossible to sit through at times. I actually can't believe that I could listen to this as a teenager without batting an eye... oh the perils of being a 16 ... read more

don't like it as much as her other albums, but it's fun! sidenote, i wish know better had more horns, i really think it could've been a really great song had it utilized the horns more </3
laufey is soo talented and her voice is so dreamy and also she's my fellow scandi-asian like that is my girl!! and i'm super happy she's gaining some recognition <3
i think what i was missing from this record was some variety. the entire album kinda melted into the same soft jazz pop yearny love song for me both because they all sounded similar, and (especially) because they lyrically were about the same subject matter, written in the same style, and maybe a few tracks to break up the ... read more
