i have MISSED straightforward melodic pop writing from quadeca and if we get an album at his modern skill level that features it more i will die happy
this album just didn't really click with me sadly. it feels so self aware that it comes across almost performative, so obsessed with proving itself and coming across in a certain way. sonically it's very polished but unadventurous.
this album hurts. it feels like its about me. and that feels like a bad thing
much less interesting than her last album, but much more consistent than her first album
someday i'll make a "catharsis" playlist and this will be the first track on it. it just feels good to listen to
morbid, self-deprecating, funny, and above all else charming. clumsy vocals from the male vocalists (the female vocalist is quite talented imo) and a fun combination of acoustic/string instruments
best: handfuls (95)
worst: mrs. price (43)
best attribute: lyricism & heart
worst attribute: production value
exactly what it needs to be in every way, and also just a damn good time. youve got me hype
a very interesting sound palette i havent heard anywhere else, plus as usual vega's lyricism is unmatched both in musicality and rhythm and in imagery and storytelling. varied but always great basslines and tones across the album, which i hadn't noticed until this listen. throughlines of body horror, physical trauma as metaphor for emotional trauma
top: bad wisdom (98)
bottom: when heroes go down (82; just so short)
best attribute(s): sound pallette, lyricism
worst attribute(s): n/a
soaked in nostalgia (for me), messy but evocative, a very mixed bag generally, lyrically sweet and creative, oddly paced/constructed (contextually this is not surprising, but makes for a frustrating listening experience)
top: birds and ships (94)
bottom: another man's done gone (57)
best attribute(s): concept/background and lyrics
worst attribute(s): production quality/mixing
