Softscars has really come around on me the more I listen to it. It is melodic and catchy, especially the title track, 4ui12, and dazies. I found those to be most infectious. This is also my first introduction to Yeule as well, and I think it is a very good one. Their voice is so addicting. When I was listening to this album it reminded me a lot of other albums I have listened to. I think the best example I can give is the last song "Aphex Twin Flame," which sounds like if Sleepyhead by Cavetown and Siamese Twins by The Smashing Pumpkins had a child.
My favorite song on the album has to be x w x; A loud opening that I did not expect. Speaking of loud openings that I did not expect, the song reminds me of Only Shallow a little. I am not sure if that was their inspiration for x w x but if it was I could tell for sure. The lyrics on the song are amazing too and I resonate heavily with them. Their screaming on this song is what took me back, it is visceral. Especially live. x w x live is crazy good. I suggest going to one of their concerts it is an experience.
I did not expect this album to be emotional and hit as hard as it did with both the beginning and ending tracks but I am not complaining. The album surprised me more than I thought. I find myself listening to this album quite a bit and I still do. I stand by the fact that Softscars is timeless and almost endlessly enjoyable. With some songs like Inferno or Fish in the pool boring me a bit. But what Yeule has done here is fascinating musically. The different blends of genres, the silky smooth robotic voice, and the lyrics are all really enjoyable and gripping. I will definitely be going through their discography to find out more about how they got here.
