an accurate recreation of my ipod from middle school with accompanying personal narratives. emo, scene, post-hardcore, metalcore, pop punk, and similar genres mostly from 2006-2012.
i definitely liked this album overall less than heroine but still liked it all. very teenage emo angst. i mostly listened to note to self, emily, ride the wings of pestilence and [untitled]. i revisit this one a lot less than heroine.
only ever knew here (in your arms), oh it's love, baby it's fact, and touchdown turnaround. never liked oh its love but the other three still have a chokehold on me because they are the blueprint for a myspace love song <3
she really slayed in this cover, this is peak scene/indie sleaze crossover styling. tumblr girl 4 life. toes is the best song on this album hands down. i also liked flux & flow besides the really weird rap in one version of it lol.
i had too much internalized misogyny to enjoy paramore and most other female artists when i was a child but i think i felt compelled to enjoy lights because she was dating? married to? the lead singer of blessthefall? (idk if any of this is right im not fact checking). and some friends of mine liked her. but i gave her a listen and lo and behold i did enjoy her. never actually listened to this whole album but the songs i liked hold up well including drive my soul & second go.
i hated this fucking guy but it was on my ipod bc of my sister. myspace love songs but ukelele instead of the glorious synth pop that is hellogoodbye. sorry manic pixie dream boy. these songs get stuck in my head stupid often though. my friend called him "hairy man" since his hair in this album cover is ridiculous.
the fun thing about sharing itunes with your older sister growing up was getting music you absolutely fucking hated on it like this. who am i to talk though see the rest of this list for much worse music.
only liked a few songs but they were the "voice claim" for one of my characters and i was obsessed with their "kiss me" cover from a "punk goes" collection. i liked my friends over you and it's been a summer a lot.
when i found this band i thought the lead singer had such an amazing voice and developed a crush on him. i looked up who it was and saw "austin carlile" come up and didn't realize until i literally saw them live at warped tour that austin did the unclean vocals and not the clean vocals. i still don't know who the clean vocalist's name is oops. good album, honestly no bad songs on it but highlights include OG loko, let live, ohioisonfire (ohio mentioned !), repeating apologies.
didn't like this as much as the flood since there's not as much of a balance between the clean/unclean vocals. i liked john deux trois and those in glass houses. also one time i used the photo booth app on my mac to put myself on top of a picture of austin carlile. my arm was cutting out but i posted it on facebook and my grandma commented "whos your friend!!" 100% thinking he was a real man in the room with me. also i was like 14 and he was a grown ass man like hello grandma why weren't you calling the police!
ok honestly the king for a day music video is SO iconic and fun to watch, still one of my favorite music videos and what a collab!!! i always associated PTV and SWS back in the day so when they joined up for king for a day it was such a slay. solid album
my least favorite PTV album (from the ones i like lol) but still solid. highlights include caraphernelia, stay away from my friends, and i don't care if you're contagious. not a huge fan of the production on this one.
this album always reminds me of walking around my best friend's neighborhood late at night playing this out loud from my ipod <3 probably my favorite PTV album despite it maybe not being the best technically. favorites include the balcony scene & wonderless. in 8th grade we were all supposed to vote on a song to sing together at our graduation ceremony, but everyone of us hated singing so our music teacher made a weird compromise and let us all pick a lyric from a song we liked and perform it spoken word one kid after the other. i chose "And If you don't find me on the front page / Find a way to say that you saw me / And If you don't find me in a movie / Find a way to say that you knew me" which was in between my friends choice (an asking alexandria lyric) and a taio cruz lyric. honestly iconic.
HATE IS A STRONG WORDDDDDD BUT I REALLY REALLY REALLY DONT LIKE YOU!!!!! i think i once made a playlist about my sister and included that song & i hate everything about you by three days grace. do NOT tell me if those songs have a romantic/sexual connotation to them i dont want to hear it thanks.
i never got super into the cutesy pop punk sound like the maine but i could appreciate bops such as everything i ask for, into your arms, whoever she is and kiss and sell. i don't vibe with the singer's voice much though tbh.
never had the whole album but i think my sister & i got into the used because my mom liked their & MCR's cover of under pressure lol? i REALLY liked pretty handsome awkward, paralyzed and smother me. i think those were the only songs i had on my ipod from this. when i tried revisiting the used in high school never could get quite into them, a bit too produced/poppy maybe?
they're kinda like the maine but british and slightly edgier lol. highlights for me included safer to hate her and trophy eyes. i didn't always know this band was british so when i found out as a kid i was disappointed that he didn't sing "more british" because i was lowkey obsessed with british men. its ok that he doesn't sing more british i think.
i was pretty enamored with this band as a kid but they're. fine i guess. after two albums though i fell off hard and didn't keep up with their discography. main song i liked was you've made your bed.
y'all can hate this or whatever but they lowkey paved the way for hyperpop lol. also DONTTRUSTME was a phenomenon at my school and i genuinely dont know if thats just bc i spread it at my super small school or it was one of those 2010s cases of scene kid music breaking into the mainstream. as a kid i really loved punkbitch, donttrustme (obviously), chokechain and wow actually most of this album i loved.
i think i just had HOTT from this release and i absolutely loved that track.
