Genuinely so intense that I had to sleep extra during the day just to manage it 😭
This album, as is clear by the enormous runtime is alot, but honestly it isn't even just that, its just that each song sounds so fucking dense, like alot of them descend into almost hellish noise sections which honestly were driving my ears crazy. With that though the vibe of this album is genuinely impossible not to get at least a bit swept up into and while I personally didnt get completely transported ... read more
500 ratings!! I sorta wanted to have this album get a special position and it was just there so hey.
This album though is such a thing though cause not only is this with its streaming version the longest album I've listened to so far but also Rope/The Beggar is the longest song I've listened to barely beating out Flood. And god that song almost deserves that, cause to be real The Beggar is the only thing thats holding this from a 100 as Rope is genuinely some of Swans most beautiful ... read more
Somebody please give this album a fresh master cause its incredible but even the best mix of it really fucks with my ears. Otherwise thought absolutely wild shit for a debut good god
Monheim is a step down from Sleep but its vibe here is still cool but good lord Chart #3 and Steve Reich absolutely monster here.
Even if I prefer the studio renditions of the Dead Magic tracks, I think that's a testament to how fucking insane base Dead Magic was because holy fucking shit. Genuinely soul rending experience this one is. Imagine being there when the completely different hit of THE SOOOOOON kicked in. Soul would've never returned to my body I'll tell you that much
This album definitely has an issue of not fully developing what it's doing throughout, but one the epics it definitely sticks the landing, ESPECIALLY Come Wander With Me / Deliverance which is honestly one of her best. (Also out of the small songs An Oath also actually just strikes me because that weird screamings just rad as hell)
I don't give a fuck that the last 2 tracks don't really do too much I genuinely burst into tears of joy during this album. This is just what musics fucking about man, there's nothing like this I have ever heard before it's just so fucking batshit insane it's glorious.
NEWSUN! : )
First time through i genuinely had to stop it only a bit in because it was so intense on my ears but on my return, this is actually so fucking beautiful good lord. Suppose the previous halted listen gave me time to warm up to this sound because it did just slowly fucking absorb me to completion. Like I can see why bands like Boris emerged from their flames because holy fuck
This is just what its all about. Just pure fucking magic from front to back, like this is possibly some of the most electrifying performances just ever.
(And it really does seem the best of the best live albums I always end up listening to with a banana peel nearby somehow 😭)
Honestly I'm not fully convinced they weren't just revving fucking motorcycles in that concert because what the fuck were those noises emerging from the guitars.
Honestly I'm a bit surprised to say that for most of the tracks here that aren't original I do think I just prefer the original on. Mind you they're great renditions I just feel like certain key elements are just gone from them like the fucking explosion at the end of screen shot or quite a bit of dreaminess ... read more
Decided on this being the last album of the year and I couldn't have made a better decision. I struggle to cry alot of the time but from the fucking happy birthday cover of all things to the end of the album I was ugly crying. And just all of this, this entire album is some of the coziest, joy inducing or tear inducing material to ever happen. The fidelity switches and the weird little vocal clips throughout and the audience interaction and adrianne's random things she says during ... read more
Though structurally this isn't the craziest album ever the actual performance is ludicrous, what the HELL was hitting my ears in the first track. Like I can't say this is perfect because the tracks are almost a bit predictable (though 1st and 3rd less so) but this ripped so fucking hard it's getting all my love anyway
There's something that weirdly gets me about this album. Like it's just so clearly Phil trying things and just him developing on all fronts with also some extremely well done stuff this early too. It's just super endearing to me even if I think this album is quite rough round the edges. Idek quite why I'm typing this up for I don't really do any album reviews anymore but idk I just want to state my happiness with this one, just makes me feel real warm
How does music even begin to get this smooth what the fuck this is like, genuinely something else ????
The part where he actually goes "IT FEELS LIKE A HUNDRED YEARS" is the actual pornography in the album because oh my GOD
Genuinely it took strength not to fucking scream listening to this even the first time, it is actually fucking ridiculous how powerful this song is
