Bomb the Music Industry! - Vacation

Very good album. Not magnum opus level though, I feel like Get Warmer is just better and more raw

Bomb the Music Industry! - Get Warmer

One of my favorite albums! Love the weather motifs throughout and the metaphor of it never getting warmer / no matter how far south you go as a representation of the idea that your mindset will only be cured by you, not the outside world. "Get Warmer" and "Bike Test 1 2 3" are two of the best tracks ever in the context of their album, and there's a few other straight 10/10 songs in there as well. There's not a single weak track. I actually think Jeff is a better ... read more

Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger in the Alps

This album is really good. I'm usually not really a fan of slower music, as most of these songs are, but they actually appeal to me quite a bit here! I'm impressed. I do sometimes feel like Phoebe's songs can feel a bit corporate/cliche/overdone and that detracts a few points but other than that I really like this record.

Kubbi - Ember

Never expected to like this type of music so much. I have quite an emotional attachment to this record since my favorite YouTuber when I was younger, Trainer Tips, used it a lot in his videos. But even the ones that he didn't use are undeniably great tracks. Blending chiptune with house and rock couldn't turn out better than Ember. I fucking love this album man, there's no weak point and several strong points.

Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher

Great album with some weak points but generally a very strong record. Not much to say here other than that it's her best album. Although I do like Sidelines more if we're talking about individual songs.

Favorites: Garden Song, Chinese Satellite, ICU

Mew - And the Glass Handed Kites
80

Mew mew mew mew mew. Mog mog mog mog mog. Actually a phenomenal album though, "Zookeeper's Boy" is like a top 20 song of all time and the whole album is just this cool amalgamation of prog and pop with the singer's awesome voice mixed in as well.

Favorites: Circuitry of the Wolf, Chinaberry Tree, Special, The Zookeeper's Boy

Carly Rae Jepsen - E•MO•TION

Bro I am not at all the target demographic for this album but why are there so many great fucking songs then? If not Imaginal Disk then I think this would be my favorite pop album ever. Phenomenal uniform album. Carly didn't have to try anything crazy to nail that sound and make songs just varied enough to feel fresh.

Favorites: Run Away With Me, Emotion, Gimmie Love, Boy Problems, Making The Most Of The Night, Warm Blood

Chappell Roan - The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess

Quite a decent pop album. I love the high energy songs. I really don't like the ones that aren't that, though. Sorry Chappell.

Favorites: Femininomenon, Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl, HOT TO GO!, Naked in Manhattan

KIDS SEE GHOSTS - KIDS SEE GHOSTS

I am not a hip hop fan yet I love this album so much! It's so good and feels like a take on modern hip hop that's not just a boring trap beat and yelling about how much you love pussy and beer! I mean there's a little of that but also some genuine reflection on mental illness, etc. And you can't tell me that there's not something objectively cool about sampling reversed audio.

Favorites: Feel The Love, 4th Dimension, Freeee, Reborn

Talking Heads - Remain in Light

I mean this album is fantastic. So David Byrne. So good. The end is a bit slow for my taste but would still be considered great if it was any other artist.

Favorites: Born Under Punches, Once in a Lifetime, Seen and not Seen

Spencer Brown - Illusion Of Perfection
100

Kinda weird that I'm a big indie fan but also fucking love Spencer Brown. I like house quite a bit but specifically this artist and this album sticks out to me as a hidden gem. It's so fucking good! I love that it's house in album form, since I feel like a lot of EDM relies too much on singles. I love that it's kind of ambient, which to me makes it more emotional. It's just a great record.

Favorites: Airplane Tekno, Audio, Hippie Hill, Bill Graham

Bon Iver - i,i

This album is so closely tied in my mind to one day on one trip, the day it came out in 2019. I didn't know much about Bon Iver but I was instantly really attracted to the experimental yet catchy tracks on this album. I just gave For Emma an 83 and I'm probably gonna rate this higher and that might be a sin of some kind but I don't really give a fuck. I'm just a chill guy.

Favorites: iMi, Hey, Ma, Naeem, Faith, Salem, RABi

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

I am not usually an indie folk fan but I love this record, especially "Lump Sum." Honestly that song boosts this record so much. There's a bit of a slump in the middle but waking up early and putting this album on sure is an experience - I recommend it. I probably am giving this record a little bit lower of a score than it deserves but that's just because I'm not into the genre a lot.

Favorites: Flume, Lump Sum, Creature Fear, Re: Stacks

Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea

I mean can I even be an AOTY user without giving this album an absurdly high score? I don't think so, and so I'm going to. I'm not one to say albums are perfect, hence my zero 100/100 scores, but I think this gets pretty close. There's no weak point in the album and there's a few songs that are literally perfect. Great job Jeff and keep Jeffing! You'll never be the best Jeff as long as Rosenstock's alive though, sorry man.

The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree

One of the best albums ever to me, probably just because I grew up with it. But once I got older and looked more into it, I realized how poignant the lyrics were. I've never gone through having an abusive family member like Darnielle has, but I think when "Lion's Teeth" is on, everyone understands his fear and rage. Also the first three songs on this album are one of the only times when, in my opinion, three perfect songs play in a row.

Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy (Mirror to Mirror)

The first half of this record is like the best first half of a record ever, not kidding. I'm straight and I love it lol, that says how good it is. I know people love the second half but I'm not as into it! Still an absolutely phenomenal record though, one of the best in recent years. And MtM is better guys, trust me.

Favorites: Beach Life-In-Death, Sober to Death, Nervous Young Inhumans, Bodys, Twin Fantasy

Sadurn - Radiator

People need to talk about this album more. It's so fucking good. Genuinely don't know how to rate this because it's too good and one of my favorite albums ever. Please listen :pray emoji:

Bo Burnham - Inside (The Songs)

The best representation of what 2020 was like out there. What we should send to the aliens if they want to know about the human condition. Can I say anything more? Wonderful songs Bo!
