Echo & the Bunnymen - Porcupine
80

Throughly enjoyable record with great production. Echo and the Bunnymen are so fascinating themselves, and this album adds to that mystique for me.

Charli xcx - BRAT
90

I have listened to this record a handful of times and it has yet to tire on me. Flawless pop with so much nuance, such variety!!

The Breeders - Pod
90

Kim Deal was the best part of Pixies, that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.

T. Rex - Electric Warrior
96

And thus glam rock was born

The Marías - Submarine
81

A new step for dream pop, and I love hearing Latin influences coming through here. Very cool sound, and a very enjoyable record.

Prince - Controversy
86

Prince invited ASMR porn.

Just as good to me as Dirty Mind, and features no songs about incest!

Gal Costa - Gal Costa
95

To have been such an Ana Frango Elétrico fan and to have not listened to Gal Costa is insane. I see she was the blueprint now. Mea culpa

Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
100

I get Springsteen now. This is a masterpiece

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
80

Rolling Stones authors are big babies that need to be entertained by the constant jangling of keys

Built to Spill - Keep It Like a Secret
86

Got me through the death of an old friend. Forever indebted to this album.

Candy Claws - Two Airships / Exploder Falls
100

Noise pop perfection. Seemingly simple but you truly cannot predict where it will go next, or at least I couldn’t. This is what mastering the fundamentals looks like.

Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us
90

Serves as both a return-to-form as well as a modern take on the sound that made them a household name. Pretension is so back

Jackson C. Frank - Jackson C. Frank
85

Knowing this guy’s story makes this album that much more special and heartbreaking to me. Marlene is a haunting song, I highly recommend giving that a listen after these 10 tracks.

Mew - Frengers
80

Solid. Need to spend some more time with it but I’m definitely impressed with this.

Daniel Johnston - Hi, How Are You: The Unfinished Album
100

So thankful this exists. More honest and vulnerable than most artists could imagine achieving. There’s a heaven if there’s a star for you, Daniel.

Charles Mingus - Tijuana Moods
90

What great fun, man. I don’t know much about Mingus, but he seems to be the type of person to not take himself too seriously, and in a jazz musician as talented as he is that is incredible admirable.

Seatbelts - Cowboy Bebop
100

I should watch this show again.

Ornette Coleman - Free Jazz
NR

You know when you listen to an album that you can tell is historically significant and is certainly incredibly impressive, and yet you never really want to listen to it again? That’s this for me. I have no desire to seek this out, but I’m glad it exists.

David Bowie - Hunky Dory
95

I truly don’t know how it took me so many years to get behind this album. I’m just glad I finally came around on it because it’s now one of my favorite albums ever. It has some of the best songwriting I’ve ever heard. Incredible production. Bowie is at his prime here.
