This EP makes me feel like I’m listening to dangdut, but Jaksel-approved. The essence of dangdut is dancing your pain away, and that same energy shines through in this EP.
White Chorus delivers an EP packed with great tracks. Except for "Mystery Pt. 2," which I find a bit repetitive and quick to bore, the rest are amazing. Shoutout to "Shine On," which I think is criminally underrated (at least based on its Spotify streams). In my opinion, it has the best production ... read more
Just like the name suggests, each member of Lomba Sihir is showcasing their own kind of magic, blending into a single, seamless line that sounds beautiful and heartwarming.
As someone who has followed (almost) every franchise within the Hindia-verse, this is the most fun, relaxed, and creative Hindia has ever sounded. It's just so enjoyable to hear him like this—especially with his flexible and flowing lyricism.
Kudos as well to every member of the band—Udu, Enrico, Rayhan ... read more
One word to describe Rimpang is "different." It's something new that Efek Rumah Kaca tried to do, and it may have felt shocking for some. Nevertheless, this experimental approach is something I appreciate.
The electronic aspect is really dominant. Although there are some parts where the creative decision is questionable, most of it is executed nicely while blending the core elements of the group. It's quite a successful experiment.
The lyrical aspect is different too from ... read more
So far, this is the peak of the Indonesian music scene. Efek Rumah Kaca is standing alone at the top, with nobody coming close.
Each track, representing a color and a topic, consists of fragments that are delivered neatly in each part. Arranged beautifully, each transition flows smoothly, creating a seamless experience on each track. You get engaged: laughing, crying, angry, then hopeful.
Merah talks about politics, Biru talks about the music industry, Jingga talks about loss, Hijau talks ... read more
Been a while since the last time I heard this project, and I must say, I was overrating it a bit.
This one doesn't give me as many sparks as I thought it would, but it's still a pretty solid project. Other than Tubuhmu Membiru...Tragis and Kamar Gelap, which I think are average, the others are great and mesmerizing.
Although I think it's on the same level as the self-titled album, each brings its own uniqueness. As an LP, Kamar Gelap brings a more uplifting energy than its ... read more
Marriage isn't always a fairytale. It could be dark, negative, and horror-like, and that's what Harum Manis try to tell us in their debut project.
I'm guessing they tried to use fetish as the imaginery of marriage, which is giving the same kind of energy and compromise, in a way. BDSM & cuckoldery isn't what general opinions is pro with, and this one told us about compromising the thing that makes your spouse excited, sexually, just like marriage: you need to compromise ... read more
this is Hindia's best release so far.
The artistic side feels real with a clear vision. Executed brilliantly to deliver a collection of multi-genre songs that remain cohesive from start to finish.
Despite two songs that I don't like, every track in this project sounds solid. Full of emotions—grief, anger, disappointment—all rooted in one thing: love. Whether it's for a pet or the government.
Just like the mixtape's title suggests, this is his manifesto to be ... read more
"Siapa yang berani bernyanyi, nanti akan dikebiri"
And many years later, they are still here, standing proudly, singing their hearts out.
This self-titled album is a really good introduction to Efek Rumah Kaca. Filled with many of their classics, *Efek Rumah Kaca* successfully showcasing their talents as a band, and most importantly, defining their characters on Indonesia's music landscape.
Track per track is amazing. It's arranged beautifully, accompanied by top notch ... read more
It’s hard to ignore the obvious: GNX is arguably Kendrick Lamar Duckworth’s most unspectacular album. Unlike his previous works, this one feels more like a straightforward compilation of songs rather than an integrated concept album. A new concept for his whole discography, but it doesn’t really showcase his strong points.
That said, it’s still a Kendrick Lamar album—and that alone makes it inherently addictive. It’s catchy, goofy, confrontational, and ... read more
Welcome to the new era of .Feast.
Their third studio album and the first one released after Bodat left the roster.
Still bringing the same theme throughout their whole discography: critique. However, the target is now different: themselves.
Just like the title suggests, Membangun & Menghancurkan is full of critiques toward themselves, with a slight jab at the government, of course, but still, it's mainly about them. It talks about their past, when they loved bashing the government ... read more
It started pretty weird with Berhenti di Kotak Pesan Suara (seriously, what kind of parents tell their children they want to have sex?), but the project becomes more interesting in its second half.
The album revolves around Ali, an activist and idealist who slowly succumbs to corruption after entering the government—a clear jab at the toxic system. The story is decent, but it feels rushed. It would have benefited from being a bit longer, perhaps told more cohesively in a deluxe version. ... read more
Focusing on finance, .Feast delivered what I believe is a project with zero replay value. Although the theme is interesting, Uang Muka fails to convey its message effectively. Discussions about financial and economic topics are presented in a traditional manner, making it feel, frankly, boring—just like how finance and economics are often talked about.
And that’s all I have to say. It has a few interesting points here and there, but overall, it’s a disappointing project.
Haven't listened to this in a long time, and I must say, just like me, Beberapa Orang Memaafkan kind of aged like milk.
They’ve really left behind the interesting elements they had on Multiverses. Sure, it’s the project that put them on the map, but the identity they established on Multiverses seems to have disappeared. This EP feels like a reset button for the band.
The clever, hip-hop-inspired lyricism is gone, replaced with blunt words that sometimes work and sometimes ... read more
On their debut album, I'm pretty amazed by the dedication poured into this project. It's wild, raw, but still carefully written at the same time.
Mainly addressing religious conflict happening in Indonesia, it's told through engaging storytelling. You can tell that Baskara is a student of Kendrick Lamar. The story is presented in a ‘young’ style: bold, foul-mouthed, and fiery. Yet, you can also sense that the members are cultured in some way, presenting the harsh ... read more
Jalaran Sadrah is a refined version of a rather disappointing effort in Pikiran & Perjalanan. Sonically it's having the same vision, but executed more clearly and organized on this one. Barasuara's best display of their skillset.
Narratively, it's a pretty great album. Opened up with a question and nihilistic approach, ended with a full and warming track with a very good message about human being. Their's most philosophical album, along with a very sharp lyrics writing. ... read more
A great vision, really, but didn't met with the right kind of execution. Pikiran dan Perjalanan feels like Taifun but with more productions that don't quite succeeding at bringing the harmonies it needed.
This one feels really overproduced. Although Taifun is quite bit complex itself, but Pikiran dan Perjalanan is much more complex yet didn't have the focus it needed. Not really a great 35 minutes.
Still feels that Iga's vocal is pretty dominant that it ruined the ... read more
Taifun is a treasure for Indonesian music landscape that needs to be protected at all cost.
Taifun (the track) is a love letter from Iga Massardi for his son. Hence, I believe the whole album is actually served as a full extensive note for the child as a tool for daily life: love yourself, be respectful to others, love your mom, keep the fire within you, etc.
The lyrics is very sharp and precise, hitting you straight to the core. There are no words being wasted on this ... read more
This album feels like having a therapy session on a fever dream. Then you woke up happily.
The lore on Magdalena Bay is so unique. One the greatest storytelling albums I've ever heard. Started with *She Looked Like Me!* which sounds raw and coming straight from the heart, the 13 following tracks feels like a cinematic, cartoonish, and bright sci-fi B movie which turns out is pretty amazing. Then, The Ballad of Matt & Nica giving the LP a heartwarming realistic closure. Very, very ... read more
Indeed, a dark times for Vince Staples.
He's being honest with the struggle he had with his career, his circle, and the thing that truly matters: his ownself. But, all of the narratives progressed nicely to the closure of the project, which is the reminder to be true to yourself, be vulnerable, and keep going forward. Keep your head up high.
Production-wise, this is pretty amazing. Really love how each track transitioned smoothly creating a nice experience. No complaints in the ... read more
To this date, *Buzz* is NIKI's most personal album. You can feel all the emotions she's been through and want to share, started from heartbreak, falling in love, to the trauma that she had.
Also, I think that the project is NIKI's best one so far. It's pretty rich, and NIKI really sounds passionate on this LP. The usage of live instruments, such as electric guitar, bass, and drums, really fitting her voice and I would love to hear more rock sound from her.
Track #1 to #5 ... read more
