Jesus Christ why did I sleep on this? Okay, I know why I did. I saw that it was a soundtrack to an Amazon series and, as a kneejkerk reaction, didn't want to listen to it since, well, I resent Amazon now more than ever in these days. But i was a fool. This, my friends, may secretly be one of Mogwai's best. Featuring 21 brooding and moody pieces that seldom extend beyond 4 minutes, ZEROZEROZERO focuses Mogwai's energies in a way similar to their other soundtrack works (Revenants, Zidane, KIN and ATOMIC). And much like many of those, specifically Zidane and ATOMIC, it ends up being one of their best albums.
ZEROZEROZERO hones their recent electronic impulses with some great, and truly organic, live sounding mixing to create an album that, honestly, immaculately, balances malice, beauty and tension. Gorgeous stuff. Maybe, if i have a friend who has prime, I'll watch the show. Maybe. Thankfully, you can buy this album via their bandcamp so I highly suggest doing that right now (or whenever there's a bandcamp weekend again).
