crazy how much greater this album could've been as a whole if he just cut off the last third
the fact this record is so widely hated is truly a testiment to the quality of nas's early work, because i can completely understand how polarizing this record must've been on release. but 26 years later... i believe the world should collectively realize this record isn't *that* bad
I really wish I saw what you all see in this record, but I just can’t.
let’s start with some positives. at its core, I think the absolute best tracks on this record are the ones featuring the core band without any features, the rapping quality is consistently great on that department.
The production here, while it aims to capture the DIY nature of the band’s earlier beats is, pretty consistently unappealing to me, and doesnt reach the highs of ATCQ’s earlier work, but ... read more
metro absolutely killed the futuristic swag production, but with underwhelming features and with a huge share of bloat, it could not be saved...
while the lyricism, singing, and rapping performance is... iffy... this record is a great atmospheric listen, perfect for the wintertime. the production is overall very solid and competent, and Ben manages to hit a few vocal highlights that i do appreciate
while i definitely appreciate this record for it's experimentation, incredible vocals, and great production, I just don’t find myself interested in replaying these songs. they’re for sure impressive, but they don’t stick with me.
besides stereo boy, stereo boy fucking slaps
this album constantly fluctuates between being cloud rap masterwork to some of the most overly distorted and nonsensical concoctions of sound that mostly leave this album as a bit of a mixed bag, but i do enjoy this record for the most part
good kid, m.A.A.d City tells the story of Kendrick’s early life living in the crime infested city of Compton, detailing his journey of self discovery through some of the greatest storytelling in hip hop history. with its outstanding rapping performances and deep and thought provoking lyricism, this album cements itself as one of my favorite hip-hop albums of all time.
π danny brown is on his rapping A-game and doesn't miss a beat throughout this entire tracklist, bouncing off an incredible lineup of semi-underground, internet born artists, who altogether, bring chaotic and fun energy unlike anything I’ve heard all year.
i really hate how much this album gets clowned on, because it's really not bad at all! the feature performances are consistantly top notch, and kanye isn't all too bad himself.
i can understand that the immediate reception was negative considering how much of a left-field turn this record must've been for core kanye fans, but i hope that one day, with kanye slowly but surely growing more insane. people will come back to this record and see it for what i see it as, not a great, ... read more
god this album is a gem, absolutely oozing with eccentricity, personality, and humor. all attributes the average sonic fan does not have
Tame impala was never that good, but y’all aren’t ready for that conversation yet
God, this album is such a mixed bag, the one place I thought I could count on Tame Imapala to deliver on is the production, but even that is so lacking on this project, the poppier direction they went with a lot of the songs on here are refreshing, for tame impala, sure, but are so lacking. As for the lyricism, while tame impala was never that lyrically inclined, this album is mostly a downgrade, I ... read more
