The fact that people aren't constantly talking about this is criminal. It's genuinely so danceable, so fun, but also so deftly created.
Fantastic indie vibes and a good introduction to a band I want to get more into. Not too many memorable songs, unfortunately.
As a closer to the "So Close To What" album life cycle, these final five tracks feel both like an extension and a chapter all their own. They're cohesive as a standalone entry in her discography, which can be exceedingly hard to do with a pop deluxe album. Kudos are in order just for that.
Yet another fun dance album that I seem to like a lot more than everyone else :( PLEASE I JUST WANNA HAVE FUN
I don't care this is a super fun dance album and I WILL be dancing.
Simultaneously soaring and claustrophobic, "Perverts" is a one-of-a-kind project that rejects any possible categorization. Yet, it's still a cohesive, final piece of work that demonstrates Ethel Cain's willingness to break new ground — even if it means digging up a grave or two.
There are songs on this album that are, without exaggeration, lifechanging. It's one of the greatest albums I've ever had the pleasure, and in some parts pain, of listening to. Ethel Cain remains a nearly inscrutable artistic force, and the sheer intellect and talent of "Willoughby Tucker" may be unmatched anywhere else in the modern music industry.
I like it, but I'm still waiting for Reneé to fully lean into her wild side. You see it on display for "Leave Me Alone" and "You'd Like That Wouldn't You," but then you run into slow ballads that muddle the waters. The girl can sing like no one else and she's funny as hell, but as an album "BITE ME" just isn't consistent enough.
This is one of the most stunning debuts I've ever witnessed. As someone who had the songs from "AR" in playlists long before "Addison" was in production, this album shows incredible growth and the creation of a real star. Her artistic identity is already growing monumental.
Conan Gray going in a slightly country, "Brokeback Mountain" direction was not expected and I will be demanding more of it. He captured such tenderness and vulnerability in the 43 minutes he took up. It's well worth the time spent listening.
Zara Larsson gave the people what they wanted: steamy, summery, blissful pop. Even if it's not exactly groundbreaking all the time (though there are times that feel completely fresh), "Midnight Sun" gets you to feel like a Y2K goddess worthy of worship.
Doja Cat has always been the type of artist to make a few incredible hits rather than an album that's reasonably good, and "Vie" is no exception — that said, I was impressed by the ratio of incredible tracks to less interesting songs. And let's not forget that "Jealous Type" is the certified song of the summer, either. Overall, it's a sleek, cool project that lets Doja tap into 80s influences. I can't complain about that.
It might get a little sluggish at parts, but when it succeeds it absolutely triumphs. I'm so excited for whatever comes next from Wunderhorse.
The concept of not releasing this gorgeous album for 50 years... they should have AT LEAST given us "Frozen Love" on one of the Fleetwood albums.
