Tallahassee to me is the perfect folk album for me. An entire album about the Alpha Couple could never be terrible, and this shines perfectly. No Children is my #1 song all time, and Alpha Rats Nest, The House That Dripped Blood, and Old College Try are on my top 100. John Darnielle's writing is at an amazing high with every single one of the songs being deep. Revolver is a landmark album not only for the Beatles, but also for the music scene in general with them delving into psychedelic even more. It's oddly unnerving and anxiety inducing while also sounding really enjoyable and comforting at the same time. The tone is set weirdly with Taxman and its repeating riff that sticks with you. Townes' country/folk music is phenomenal, all of the feelings that it induces show just how far you can go with nothing but a guitar. The lyricism is great with songs like Lungs and Waiting Around to Die being raw expressions of emotion that I haven't heard replicated anywhere besides Hurt by Johnny Cash. Its so appealing as its so human, its heart wrenching and uplifting at the same time as he covers alcoholism, love and addiction (my interpretation of Fare Thee Well, Miss Carousel). ... read more
