hemlocke springs - the apple tree under the sea

If you were on the Internet, specifically Tiktok (stay with me here) in 2022/23, you definitely heard "girlfriend", hemlocke springs' breakthrough single that was inescapable for a time. When a song blows up like that on the Internet, it's usually a safe bet to assume you won't be hearing from that artist again. So I was pleasantly surprised to see that not only was springs' back with an official debut album, but that it was also a really fun and bubbly synth pop ... read more

I cannot believe how good this is. This is genuinely insane. Oh my god, hooooooooly shit oh my god

Main Era - IV of Wands
75

Boston indie rockers Main Era have turned to the dark side, at least for the most part. Their newest project is a 4 track, 30 minute experiment of bedroom-gone-bad, a mix of post-hardcore influences and dreamy slowcore that makes for a pretty intriguing listen. Abrasive and sludgy and erratic, it's a project that could only have been put together by veterans in their craft in a fit of creative insanity. "A Hate Inferior", ... read more

Wait, What Did You Say? - Stay Safe, Little One.

Really solid 5th wave / indie album that I wouldn't have otherwise known about had it not been for AOTY. I can give it a 75 all day, but realistically, I'm jealous that there's people this talented out there that their first album sounds just as good or even better production-wise than a lot of indie bands. I immediately thought of Anamanaguchi's Anyway during the first track, and to make an album sound on par with a band that's been doing it for over 20 years is nuts. ... read more
