I'd basically forgotten about this band, but this album is a welcome return to their late 00s peak. Barnes feels inspired in a way that he hasn't since Skeletal Lamping.
If you're asking me, it's one of the greatest albums of all time. The subtlety at work here is out-of-this-world, and it reveals more intricacies years after the first listen. Combine that with a great set of songs, and you have a perfect 100.
This album is everything I ever wanted from a new Destroyer album. It's beautiful, yet challenging - rewarding those who give it many thoughtful listens. I thought Kaputt was going to be his pinnacle, but he may have surpassed it somehow. Special stuff here.
