AOTY's botting problem has gotten really fucking pathetic. First, it was the BTS album last week, which was botted cuz their fans are obsessive as shit. Now, it's some loser botting the shit out of this lifeless album made by a guy who was calling himself a Nazi and saying Nazi shit literally last year. You guys are fucking losers and should get a grip, goddamn man.
Laufey probably has the most unique lane of the most mainstream artists at this point, basically being the only jazz musician to gain widespread prominence in the 21st century. In Everything I Know About Love, she proves her talent in this sphere with high highs in the songwriting and jazz compositions that would still stand out on their own. That said, I think she shoots herself in the foot a bit by not expanding on the subject matter, style, or song structure all too much, as it feels like ... read more
I used to be a preeeeetty big Muchi fan a few years and was really impressed by songs like “Luggage” and “the pressure is on me”, but I don’t see any of that potential being fulfilled on this latest EP. This is like the clearest example of Don’t Tap The Glass reheated nachos, except the nachos were just fine in the first place and are now soggy and taste like they went bad twenty years ago. Despite some charismatic performances, the production here is really ... read more
Learning to love this album was one hell of a journey. I discovered this project a few months ago when I was on the precipice of a mini depressive spell caused by some overwhelming feelings of isolation. I don't remember what pushed me to press play, but I did, and I was floored by the lyrical content of I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning. From the overly optimistic writing of First Day of My Life to the beautiful instrumentation of Old Soul Song, I was almost completely enamored. ... read more
Hey! This is my mixtape, Let The Tide Take Me Away, and I hope you enjoy it if you listen to it. It's mainly a blend of electronica and instrumental synthpop with some other elements mixed in here and there. Let me know what you think about it if you do take the time to listen to it!
Is she is botting her own song on album of the fucking year? I mean check the review and then listen to the actual thing. Nothing, but a lifeless pop instrumental with lyrics so bitter it might make your ears scrunch up. I'm too employed for this shit
I'll start by saying that this doesn't *sound* bad, but there's so much more to a song than that. Music is an art form, and one of the most important tenets in any art form is what it represents and/or what it is trying to say. Not everything has to have a meaning, but the most important songs to people aren't just the ones that they think sound good. I think this is a 0 because of what it represents rather than the sonic elements themselves. This song is just so ... read more
34 minutes of pure alt-rock excellence fueled by the worst memories from college that you wish you could get to stop swirling around in your head. From the abrasive sincerity of the intro Tired of Sex to the penultimate track Falling for You expressing the deeply overwhelming fears of settling for someone else, Pinkerton feels singular in its raw vulnerability in displaying the plight of young nerdy guys (which of course lands with me because I fall into that category). Despite some very odd ... read more
When I think of the word lush as a musical quality, this is the album I jump to immediately. It all comes down to the sickeningly sweet synths, high-pitched children’s choir-like vocals, and drums that should feel out of place but blend in. Going into this album, Porter took a long break and focused his energy on becoming a better musician and you can feel it on these songs. Despite a few odd choices, Nurture will grab and keep your attention for its entire duration and make you learn ... read more
A showcase of true hip-hop excellence. Incredible beats from Madlib layered with fantastic flows and lively performances from a jaded Freddie Gibbs who recounts his rough upbringings and lifestyle in a relentlessly captivating style. The improvement from the last project to this in a year is unfathomable and the starpower of the feature list is absolutely insane considering the amount of borderline nobodies on the last album. When I talk about required reading for a genre, Piñata is ... read more
A true rock classic for virgins now and thirty years ago. There’s a lot of super fun and catchy songwriting paired with some raw emotional expression derived from that transition to adulthood. While occasionally the lyrics and ideas feel as though they barely scratch the surface of the subject they’re talking about, the amateurishness of this album plays into its own hand for most of this album. All in all, maybe it's not the worst thing that the nerdiest guys you know ... read more
