This song is eerie and unsettling, yet somehow upbeat and full of movement. The vocal performance is spot on, perfectly selling the character's isolation and the dark themes of murder and arson, all layered with a twisted dark comedy about friendship. It’s such a unique vibe that now I really want to dive into 'In the Miso Soup!' Thanks for the book rec, Squid! :D
The vocal performance here feels honest and vulnerable, capturing the bittersweet balance of hurting and dancing through the end of a relationship or stage in life. Given that the song reflects on the breakup of the group and breakups in general, it hits an emotional note without overdoing it. I heard someone compare the performance to Four Non Blondes (in a negative sense, albeit), and sure, I can hear some influence, but to me, this track holds its own. The vocals, while expressive, never ... read more
I have a theory that producers will become more popular as "rappers" in the future because when you fundamentally understand how music works, you know exactly where a vocal fits and how to use it as an instrument rather than treating it as its own separate entity. This track feels like a step in that direction. The production is dope, especially the chord change around 1:22. The lyrics could definitely go harder to me, and a few mixing tweaks wouldn’t hurt, but overall, I can ... read more
Willow Avalon's Southern Belle Raisin’ Hell just doesn’t hit the mark for me. It’s full of every overused Southern belle country trope with barely any personality. Homewrecker has a cool lyric here and there, like “And if those walls could talk, I wish they'd tipped me off,” but the song itself? It’s been done a million times. Baby Blue is catchy and warm—probably the best on the album—but even that gets repetitive and has lackluster ... read more
MGK, you are too old for these lyrics man. Speaking of which, I get it is punk, but that doesn't excuse for poor empty handed writing. Trying to "bring punk back", is cool but this seems unnatural. However, Willow has promise. She definitely carried the track, but at times her vocals were a little too forced.
edit: well... i was kinda right, but it was a lot more underwhelming than expected. if it had a more catchy and stronger hook then i would be okay with the simplicity. on a positive note, i just love this mans voice :D (original score: 85)
Based on the trailer, I'm guessing I will think it is a solid track with the classic beautifully buttered down vocals w/ a splash of raspy, just how I like it. However, I won't find the hook drawing me back and being as infectious as I would want it to be. ... read more
The vocals, in my opinion, are far better than Yoko, however, the og version has such lovely production. Although comparing a piano ballad to the original full production is kind of unfair, it would be cool to hear Michelle on the original. Overall, this is cool!
relaxing. chilling. simple. beautiful. the mix on this is wide and spacey, the vocals are the perfect fit for the atmosphere. And its pleasant to hear Adrianne helping out. they defiantly should have more listeners, and I'm sure soon they will.
Solid and simple boom bap instrumental with a southern twist. Denzel does his thing as usual, however, this time we get some lyrics with substance. Nasty flows and is that a lil singing I hear?!? This is what we needed from him, but I know there will be better to come with the album.
You know on Youtube those videos like "Features that Saved the Song" , I nominate Mick and Blu.
Goods:
*The honesty goes a long way for me. Honesty in the lyrics and emotion, Saba didn't hold back and that carries through out this project. I felt like Saba gave us a piece of his heart.
*The story telling is vivid and drew me into his world and perspective. A world full of mixed feelings of figuring out true love, life, grief, depression, family, and unity.
*The flows this man has is underrated. I mean to rap over jazz instrumentation and drums and keep pace is crazy to me.

I'm disappointed sadly, not because he can't rap but, because I know he can do more. The instrumentals seem generic, except some dope moments like the switch in new tooth. I understand it is a rap project aiming for short & sweet, but I just wish it was a bit more explorative all around. The man can spit tho.
Is it catchy? Yes. Can he sing? Yes. Its definitely a fun song, but I feel like Mr. Puth could bring more to the table when it comes to the production. It is overall repetitive with the drums pattern, and I feel something missing. However, Tik Tok is about to get a new anthem!
Lael got some hate in the past, but coming from where she has, I am excited for her. This track is fun and has some catchy elements. The vocals and lyrics are what they are, but as a whole, I can see her doing some big things this year.
The lyrics and instrumental are your average joe, but I still had a good experience. I can hear the Phobe inspiration, but I am not one to care too much about artist or songs sounding similar (as long as there isn't any plagiarism or blatant stealing). Overall, I think its a short and sweet tune with some catchy qualities.
Good:
* Well I thought after Jean-Michel, he might have something serious on his hands
Bad:
* I was wrong.
* The instrumentals are basic and generic
* Some features were just not helping the track and sometimes hindering them
* The lyrics are mostly just bars that have been thought of already but said slightly differently
He can rap, sometimes even has a nice singing voice, but this project was lacking originality, vulnerability, and creativity. It makes me wanna bump up my ... read more
