I will say some of the beats are definitely repetitive but I've learned to appreciate that, considering its RZA

I think it needs to be mentioned that I think 2001 is slightly better but that doesn't mean this album ain't perfect either.
Even down to the sonics this album sounds pleasing to the ears, with the sick synths constantly used throughout the album, the perfect balanced amazing mixing, the laid back rapping and how Snoop is kinda in all the tracks and he's amazing as well, this album is a perfect listen for me, no skippable tracks, at all, straight amazement the whole way through

This album is very unique in that its the culmination of Mafioso rap, popularized by Raekwon, Ghostface, and Biggie

Although I feel as if Nas has made albums that are comparable to Illmatic, that doesn't push away the fact that nothing Nas has made will be exactly as great as Illmatic is/was.
