I'm a big fan of Navy and was super excited to see this album! There are some repetitive beats and a lot of post-song talking but Navy overall cooked as usual, he has a style that he's mastered and it sounds great
HUGE fan of Blu, had him on repeat for years now. I was excited to listen to this, but I can't lie it doesn't really hold up to their highs in their discography. Absolutely some bangers and impressive artistry here, but some of the production doesn't have that spark and some of the songs just kinda feel there. Blu and Exile are still fantastic, but this album has an underdeveloped feel at times I can't really explain. Still about to replay their entire discography now ... read more
This was a really cool album! I’m mainly grading the finished portion of the album, since everything beyond the “undeveloped” section can drag a bit and doesn’t sound fully completed (of course). It was fun, jazzy, and had some cool collabs as well. I especially loved the song with Robert Glasper and Colonial Fire. I’d recommend a listen to any fans who haven’t heard it yet, pretty good music with plenty of energy and creativity throughout
A funky musically interesting banger tracklist. I tried listening to this while working on something else but I quickly forgot about my other stuff as I was drawn in by the unique production and otherworldly vibes. This is the kind of album that demands your attention and blows you away. I never knew what was going to happen next and I love that.
those strings are beautiful and hearing Nas perform live all these years later with his experience and reflections it's just a great listen. Live albums don't always work but this is amazing
It’s low key up there as one of the best in Gil’s discography, no skip funky and introspective
Beautiful, smooth, timeless. I'll definitely be returning to listen to this masterpiece again
WHAT!? I've been sleeping, cuz this is incredible! It blends older soul sounds with modern ideas so flawlessly and the vocals and performances are great as well. Rest in peace I can't believe I'm only now listening to this
I wasn't sure what to expect but it's quite nice to listen to. The only reason my score is a 6.5 is because it isn't really anything special, but it's worth a listen
Still gonna be relistening for a while but initial thoughts: J Cole killed it. Despite being so long it doesn't feel bloated. Fantastic rapping and artistry from front to back, and catching all the references and tributes is so sick
I can't lie it sounds like when I go back through past fl studio files I never finished. Some cool ideas, but mostly just half finished beats that don't really go anywhere or evolve. I wish there were more, because there's potential for sure
I started off wanting to leave the project unfinished, but the more I listened the more I drew closer to the unique sound. The way the grooves switch on a whim, the unique sounds which stray from the way I envision music, the use of samples and silence. It’s all super cool and artistic beyond what I would have previously thought. Probably won’t jam to this every day or anything but it’s a really incredible look into Mac’s creative mindspace
fantastic live album, you can feel the energy and life in the performances and the one on Spotify at least has a few new songs of his as well which is always a great surprise
Relistening and I'm SO close to a 9/10, it's genuinely such a beautiful and introspective album which delves deep into life, love, religion, and aging. I could listen to this over and over again
It isn't the kind of music I normally listen to but I massively respect the artistry required to make this, it was a neat experience
Sampling legend, artistic masterpiece. It takes you to another world. It took a long time and a lot of listening to understand just how incredible this album is, but now I can’t look away
One of his better albums in my opinion, I actually enjoyed listening through. It had some filler in my opinion but overall it's worth the listen
I can't lie it isn't groundbreaking, but it's so solid. The verses kill all the way through, boom bap production hits, and overall it's a nice listen. Highly recommend to fans of 90s hip hop. Also damn that conductor beat was spectacular
