残夢 [Zanmu]

Wow, this album sure is absurdly overhated! I dunno what is up with Ado's reviews on this site, but this is genuinely just a good album. It's not perfect sure, there's a lot of songs that are lacking or too messy, and it's definitely not a very cohesive album (considering its just basically just a ton of singles mashed together), but the majority of this is good! Ado's vocal style feels so fresh and fun compared against so much of the jpop/jrock world, and when she pulls out all the strings here she can make some incredibly fun energetic songs!

The production does hold it back, I'll admit. Some of the songs have some really weird EDM infused ideas, or kinda boring production, that definitely keep this from being great. That, or Ado's vocal work is just too strained or forced. If you cut out the songs that fall into that trap on here, I think you've got something really solid. Thankfully though, because thats not the majority here, I found myself enjoying this despite its flaws!
