richly produced, blending elements of symphonic rock, opera, and classical music. lyrics are timeless, harmonies and melodies are completely cinematic. great album opener and closer, as well as the climactic songs in between. this will forever hold a special place in my heart.

i'm starting to believe jack antonoff is out there getting paid to produce the soundtrack to my life. lana and jack were clearly in tune with each other when creating the swooping, gentle melodies, raw lyrics and evocative atmospheres. her velvety vocals, storytelling, and choice of chords give the album a cinematic feel to it, straight out of the late 60s. it all sounds really ambitious and mature, as if she has finally captured her sound.

a bunch of formulaic, emotionless, pop songs telling me to stop being sad aha. it does have a couple of decent moments that work just fine as background music.
