Probably the greatest industrial album of all time. How is it not even ranked in the all-time list on this site?
Girls, Girls, Girls is maybe the starkest contrast I've ever seen between quality of a beat and quality of lyrics on a rap song.
WTF is that shit about an "Indian squaw"?
Aside from that this album's pretty sick for the most part, even if I think it's just a little overrated.
This one's not quite as good as I remembered, but the high points are arguably Wayne's peak as far as rapping goes. No Ceilings isn't as consistent as Drought 3 (or arguably Dedication 2) and the low points are pretty sleepy to be frank (Wayne On Me is boring and cringey, I Got No Ceilings is literally just the original Black Eyed Peas song, and I'm Single is just too slow). The features also disappoint more often than they don't.
But when No Ceilings hits, it's ... read more
This one's got some misses.
Generally, I really like DAMN. I think Kendrick's talent is still super evident in the majority of the tracklist, the production is pristine across the board, and several of the songs rank among his best ever. It's also got some of his most easily listenable and bumpable cuts (DNA, ELEMENT, HUMBLE, etc).
However, this and Section.80 are the only Kendrick albums that have multiple tracks I straight up don't like (Mr. Morale and GNX have but one ... read more
I don't really know what I can say here, given that this is the highest rated album of all time on this site at the time of writing.
I think it would be a waste of time to get bogged down in breaking down the concepts and whatnot behind the record, simply because other people can do that better than I can, and that's not what's most important to me about this album, although it is certainly a part of what makes it so special.
What's most impressive to me about To Pimp a ... read more
One of my favorite rap albums ever, I can't get enough of it. Every track is at least very good, with the weakest (namely Poetic Justice, Real and Compton) still being well-produced and well-written tracks.
Some of my favorite moments in all my time of being a music/rap listener are related to GKMC, specifically the first times I listened to Sherane a.k.a Master Splinter's Daughter and The Art of Peer Pressure, both tracks having their incredibly atmospheric production matched with ... read more
I can't think of a negative thing to say about this album. D'Angelo is the coolest motherfucker alive on this album and he knows it. Every track sits just right, the grooves are immediately likeable but the performances, melodies and harmonies (dude, those harmonies!) are captivating enough to warrant repeated and attentive listens.
You can play this album wherever and whenever and it should go over well. It can make you feel euphoric, it can make you cry, you can fuck to it ... read more
I think AOTY just doesn't like Fleetwood Mac very much. If like Radiohead or somebody made Sisters of the Moon it'd be at least a 95
Everyone hating on Songbird is goofy, and Never Going Back Again deserves far higher than 82, that guitar work is unbelievable.
While I prefer The Downward Spiral, I think The Fragile is the ultimate proof of Trent Reznor's genius. This is probably in my top 5 double Albums (as nebulous as the definition of that term has become) of all time, and out of the 105 minutes that it runs, the only tracks I wouldn't miss if they were cut are Starfuckers, Inc and Pilgrimage.
From the first seconds, The Fragile sucks you into its unique, heavy and layered world, and continues to surprise and impress you until the ... read more
Flawless album. I didn't 100% "get it" on my first listen, but I knew right away this record was one of a kind and deserving of attention from the first time I heard Mr. Self Destruct. It's only grown on me more on repeated listens as I've gotten used to the extremely unique, daring and intense sonic palate here. The closest thing to a bad track is BMwaG, and even that's just a 2 minute song that's a bit ridiculous. I still think it has an important place on ... read more
MUSTAAAAAAARRRRRDDDD!
Bangers front to back. Pretty comfortably his least substantial album up to now, but it's a very infectious, fun, and earned victory lap after the events of earlier this year, with no track being less than fun (tho gnx the song is pretty easily the weakest imo). This is gonna get a lot of plays from me for sure, and reincarnated is already one of my favorite songs by Kenny.
Bowie's most perfect record, even if Ziggy is more iconic and Low is more innovative. There's only 6 songs, but 5 of them are between 9 and 10 out of 10 ratings and the only one that isn't is a high 8.
Y'all, I just love this shit. MBDTF is probably "better," but this is my favorite Kanye album, and I think the reason for that is that it isn't perfect. MBDTF is the closest Ye ever came to being perfect, because that's what it set out to be. But because of that, it's easier to latch onto little things about it that aren't perfect, like Blame Game or Jay Z's verse on Monster.
You can't do that with Yeezus. It's deliberately imperfect, and in that way it's more successful in its goals ... read more
While it's only my second favorite rap album of all time, objectively it's probably the best. In a genre that often suffers from bloated and padded projects, Illmatic's tightness is a breath of fresh air. There's only 9 songs, but they all range from great to genre-defining. Every beat is some of the best boom-bap you'll ever hear, and Nas delivers an all-time great performance on all of them. Favorite track is Life's a Bitch, two of the greatest verses of all time with a dreamy beat and ... read more
